Just curious, what would you realistically want NATO to do in this situation?

NATO shouldn't have involved itself in Ukraine in the first place. They worked hard to plant a anti Russian government in Ukraine and dangled that NATO membership on a stick. When push came to shove they let them fend for themselves.

NATO literally dragged them into this mess with false promises of membership, the least we could do is support them in this conflict we're partially responsible for.

Isn’t that simple. UKraine was going to be targeted for invasion regardless of if they sided with the west. Siding with the west just quickened it because they knew invasion would happen.

I'm not saying that was the ONLY reason. The Ukraine has been under Russian control for much of it's history anyway. But please do not underestimate the significance of the NATO issue. Russia is not going to let their opps put nukes on their border. And we wouldn't either.

Trump was right about NATO. Putin is just exposing that they are a farce with major divisions. No one is willing to act.

The Ukraine isn't a Nato member. Article 5 only guarantees they act if a member is attacked. Poland is on Russia radar, and they are a NATO member. If they attack Poland its on.

Trump actions in fact only gave credence to the idea he worked to support NATO's dissolution or hobbling it in retrospect. It's fair to ask other countries to sacrifice more to it. But, there was talk that he also wanted to pull out completely which from Russia perspective, if you can get the strongest military in the world to withdraw from that alliance, that helps them immensely in their expansionist plans.
