Can't remember who suggested it or where they did in the forum, so I'll post about it here; I've finished Angela Saini's book on race science.
It's great. An entertaining structure that highlights efficiently the historical, intellectual and political continuity of race science throughout the last two centuries and juxtapose its tradition to its current manifestations. Also filled to the brim with direct contemporary expert accounts. And I think that it manages to remain fair to opposite perspectives without shying away from analyzing them, which is precious.
Now I kinda want to read her book on sexism in science
does it go into detail about DNA / the human genome project and the effect of that?
that is a pillar of the "new wave"

Yes, it does. There were several projects around these new DNA sequencing methods and she interviewed several of the scientists behind one of them, including Cavalli-Sforza, one of the pioneers in the field of genetic human diversity. It's very interesting. Most of the scientists were actually liberal antiracists but they failed to challenge comprehensively their own racial framework.
