This is less absurd than you make it seem breh. If you remove capital from factories they don't automatically stop functioning. A workers co-operative could function in some sectors impervious to mass automation given that the good being manufactured is profitable enough.
That's a big "given"

What sector has factories but is impervious to automation

Clinging to that old factory/worker model is a waste of time.... we have to look forward

U mite as well say 'no more cars.... we have to set up protectionist laws to keep people in horse drawn carriages'

Green tech, high value electronics, high value clothing, specialty equipment for the military etc. There are plenty of high added value things that are produced that can keep manufacturing going. And I shouldn't say that, because I didn't say anything like that. Capitalists owning a factory will opt for a low cost option to increase profit margins where as in some cases a workers co-operative is more concerned with an equitable profit sharing so that the number of workers there is sustainable. I understand the old economy is slowly (very slowly) being phased out but there are different ways of doing things. Look at Germany for a picture of what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure how any of those things are impervious to automation. The two things closest (the clothes and military stuff) are no go- high value clothing is too low volume to employ a significant amount of people and staking growth on killing technology funded by govts just doesn't sit right with me. Germany is actually a good picture of why your idea won't work- you look at any of the auto makers, for example, they have just enough workers there to stay within Germany's labor laws, but the bulk of their operations have moved abroad.... 1 to avoid the high costs of manufacturing in Germany, 2 to hedge their bets on currency fluctuations, 3 to have capacity closer to growing markets. And often times when companies get locked into pro labor models they can't shed capacity when demand falls. All the Italian car companies are struggling with this now and Detroit battled with this as well.

IMO it's better to get people into whatever fields are more sustainable, than to try and prop up what's becoming obsolete. The way shyt is moving we don't have time to fukk around.... manufacturing as a source of jobs is dead, let's get people moved over to where its live

I work for mta. A Lil info, look up BMT Canarsie line, or CBTC. the tech involved is meant to phase us out. The law is from the city council mandating at least 2 crew members on the train in case of evacuation.

Ohh, I see. :ohhh:

Bu-bu-bu-bu-but...this makes the makes the price of things cheaper...:bryan:

lol, which is why i am going back to school...I have to outrun the robot intelligence. Hopefully I can save up a sizable nest-egg before I'm inevitably replaced and forced to live in a 6x6 flat, with my government rationed lab-grown MRE, in a friggin water-logged megacity.

LOL
