The highest selling COD game of all time is black ops with over 30 Million copies sold.

Both Spider-Man and GOW sold over 20 million copies…

why do y’all keep saying Sony first party titles don’t sell enough?

Because Sony does the Ubisoft lite way of cutting price. Look at those two games you listed. At Gamestop right now.

https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/playstation-4/products/god-of-war---playstation-4/127507.html

God of War is currently 9.98 new.

https://www.gamestop.com/video-game...-the-year-edition---playstation-4/205770.html

Spiderman on ps4 is 19.98.

Contrast.

https://www.gamestop.com/video-game...ath-of-the-wild---nintendo-switch/141686.html

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is 39.99 older than both of those Sony games and outsold both of them.

God of War - PS4 - Price History - Exophase.com

God of War has been reliably between $10-20 dollars since October 2019, which is 18 months after releasing it.

God of War Sales Have Passed 10 Million - IGN

This article is as of May 2019. Don't get me wrong. 10 million is outstanding but what you said is 20 million so half of that, at least, comes from the game being sold around $20.

In contrast, Breath of the Wild has only gone below $40 four random times in five years and has been in the top 20 npd virtually every single month.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Deku Deals

Not to mention the beast that is Mario Kart Deluxe.

https://www.dekudeals.com/items/mario-kart-8-deluxe

It has never been sold lower than 35 dollars in five years.

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2... of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 24.13 million

Mario Kart Deluxe was at 38 million at the end of 2021. Breath of the Wild was at 24 million. Sure Sony games sell a lot but the money from first party games aren't the same.

Sony makes around 80% of its gaming money from third parties. For. Nintendo, it's 20%. That's the difference. That's why there is only one Nintendo.

The fact that Sony replied to the acquisition at all tells a different story.

If they weren't worried about it like that they wouldn't have had a public announcement.

They were worried about Bethesda, they are worried about Activision

Their stock dropped a decent amount largely due to the acquisition, their reply was purely to assuage shareholders.

7 million of those 20 million spider man games came from people rebuying it on ps5

This is a good article and why I think sony won’t rush into buying any publishers.

Buying Activision Blizzard is the industry's biggest gamble | Opinion

Why Microsoft needs to be careful:

Why Sony won't be rushing to respond:
Sony has to be smart about what they do. Fact of the matter is that if Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard and it doesn't pan out the company generates such massive profits that it's not going to greatly impact them. In 2-3 years the money this cost them will be replenished and back sitting on the balance sheet. Hell it was just money they had sitting around anyway as this was an all cash purchase.

This was a low risk high reward purchase. If Sony buys EA and it doesn't work it could greatly damage the company.

Save for another purchase, it'll be back in the bank by June of next year. Reup and do it again. Next time, either WB or Ubisoft.

They will be fortunate if this goes smoothly. Concessions could be demanded. If I were them I would promise to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for at least 5-10 years post merger if I thought it was jeopardy. Congress is getting upset at big tech and this is probably gonna face some level of scrutiny it wouldn't have normally faced. That being said if they try to buy another major publisher post-Activision Blizzard I doubt it is allowed to happen after this.

I noted something though when they said something about big tech. It is always referred to as consisting of Facebook and its toxicity, Google and YouTube and its toxicity as well as Amazon, that has a monopoly of sales online.

Microsoft's purchase is going to be approved, hell, it might even be applauded so that an American company can take on the Tencents (Chinese government backed) of the world. Tencent bought a studio every three days last year.

There isn't anyone else to get at this price point so I'd wager that WB games, EA and Ubisoft are still on the table for Microsoft.
