Legend
I was wondering this to myself before I made the move from the East Coast to the West Coast. There are definitely more black people on the East Coast. Yes, black people are rap's intended targets, even though I see blasphemy stating otherwise on this board. Everything is much closer so its easier to market in the East too. If you got a NYC radio station, you're hitting as far as Hartford, probably up to Albany, New Jersey. Out here I feel like the radio signals die out pretty quick (went through Utah with only one radio station). With that, it is probably easier to be heard on the radio out on the East. There are a lot of smaller all rap radio stations. Most of those stations play local stuff. I haven't heard that out here yet. And I mean on the East this is on a larger scale too. The other major thing is that rap and hip-hop were born in NY. Those two things are intertwined. The other major thing is that the West Coast stars and legends are still active. Its hard to replace them when they're still selling and producing to some degree, but is still better than the newcomers. People rotate all the time on the East Coast on the spotlight. Dr Dre and the crew are still on top. No one's knocked them off yet.
