i find it amusing how you routinely show disdain for most of the dudes that your favorite rapper glorifies.

Nice try.

a) I could care less who Rocky glorifies. It's all about how the music turns out. Rocky thinks French Montana is dope. I think Montana is basura. End of story. Unlike most hip hop fans, I actually have independent thought. I don't like an artist simply because my favorite artist likes an artist. It's the dumbest shyt ever.

b) Rocky's skillful appropriation of Bone Thugs' style is one of the most impressive things I've heard from a new school cat. Because he was smart enough to extract the coolest aspect of their style while ditching the corny parts (such as the obnoxious barbershop quartet shyt). It also helps that Rocky's voice is WAY better than any Bone Thugs member.

There you have it.

If you had nothing to say, why even respond to me to begin with? You love the attention?

If I find something amusing and there's nothing I want to add, I just chuckle and keep it moving. Maybe give a dap. You on the other hand will attempt some sideways comment, then when pressed, back down like a lil bytch but pretend people are looking too deep into it.

That shyt is amusing to me :mjlol:

It's all good.

Breh I've already said it, I'm strictly talking WORLDWIDE. Well, actually Europe and parts of Africa. And again, no cared about BTNH like that over here, certainly not at the levels of Wu, Big, Jay, Snoop, etc. If you've been to other places in Europe where that's the case, cool, but where I've been it's def not. You go to random villages in Poland and you might catch 2pac and Wu-Tang graffitis.

Actually, it's on the Coli that I saw that I understood that groups like Bone Thugs and Outkast are so big in the US. Over here people (even HH heads) don't really care for neither, and they are "popular" because of the mainstream singles (Crossroads and Hey Ya). Some styles just don't travel as well as others I guess.

Co sign
Bone had a following but those where cats that paid attention to what was going on Stateside and had the time to decipher all that double, triple time rapping, most cats were put off by the style and let's not forget most of Europe was really East Coast biased in the mid-late eighties to early nineties..Rakim/Epmd and after that Snoop/Dre changed the way people listened to hiphop over here..the same reason it took a while for european hiphop fans to come down from the P.E Bpm type records to EPMD/Rakim etc...ears where tuned differently over here in the late eigthies early nines..That's why House had no problem exploding in Europe,we where already tuned to 120 BPM's and up from listening to Miami Bass/Planet Rock type songs in the early eighties.I remember Bone had a cult following of dudes dressing like them and doing all that tongue twisting but we didn't take them serious with all that barbershop quartet noise..never really got into them..i liked thuggish ruggish because of Bizzy, mad talented but conflicted from the getgo

its deeper than rap scrap.

Some other additional contributing factors played into it like other posters have mentioned like Tomika Right not knowing how to run a label, bad contracts, Bizzy always doing something else.

As far as Snoop though, he has the benefit of being linked to the legacy of Dr. Dre among other things. When 2001 came out and blew up he was on two of the major singles (Still D.R.E. and The Next Episode). Because of his connection to Dre/Aftermath he's been associated with classic albums (2001, The Marshall Mathers LP, Get Rich or Die Trying [PIMP remix]), the NWA reunion (Source cover, Chin Check), things like that. He also had a major push commercially, first with Deathrow, then with No Limit. Then there's his ability to market his image better than any of the individual members of Bone Thugs.
