Didn't really think this was an actual era until 2007. Before then, it was just random rap/rock collabos. There was never a fad-like wave until 07 when dudes started wearing beltchains, spiked bracelets, and adding guitar riffs to the start of their songs.

Chris :dead: Tim Duncan was asked who'd he prefer Linkin Park or Fetty Wap, my response

I know rock has been in hip hop throughout, but about 1995-2005 was when an actual crossover sub-genre was formed .....Thoughts.

Rage Against the Machine
Limp Bizkit
Kid Rock
Linkin Park
Incubus
Gorillaz
Etc

This era included many rock-centric tracks from more traditional MCs and producers

That's when the south got a hold of it.smh

When the south gets its hands on something it always starts out super ignorant before they settle in and make classics

I'll also say the rap/rock era was 97-01

Starting and ending with Diddy

All About The Benjamins - Rock remix
Come With Me
Bad Boy For Life

Everything after that was just random collabs but between the timeline of songs I mentioned is when Blink 182, RATM and more really got in bed with rappers

No I totally understand what you saying, but musically the true era was what the OP is suggessting. The Rap-Rock groups were at their pinnacle, and lots of traditional (black) MCs had a track that was rock-centric between 1995-2005.

As far as fashion, Dipset were the first traditional (black) MCs to blatantly wear rock-centric clothes around 2005-06, Lil Wayne followed suit with "Leather So Soft" and attempting to play guitar on stage, then you had your "Party Like a Rockstar" track. Still, all this was more fashion than actual plethora of Rock-Rap groups or rock-centric tracks like 1995-2005.

So in weird way, 1995-2005 had traditional (black) MCs making rock-centric tracks but not wearing the clothes or having lyrics blatantly talking about rock music (except Mos Def and Diplomats)
....while after 2005 there was a short lived period of traditional MCs wearing rock-centric clothing, but musically there weren't nearly as much rock-centric tracks as the 1995-2005 period..

Used to like the genre alot as a TEEN. Now I can't fukk with any one of those bands, except for maybe Deftones and sometimes Manson. The vocals really don't age well for alot of these bands. Korn.... The lyric content is just too fukked to bump on the regular nowadays... Limp Bizkit. Would be a great Alt Rock band if they had chose an actual singer instead of Durst trying to rap and sing. Go youtube Limp Bizkit instrumentals, guitarist and drummer as amazing but songs are pure unlistenable trash because of the vocals.

EDIT: Seen above post, yeah RATM I can still jam to also.. Their music actually fits with today's conspiracy fukk the government times, shame they don't record new shyt.

i never really liked any of the Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park type shyt but i def agree with you there. they played some Limp Bizkit at the gym the other night and all i could think of is "this would be ok if Fred Durst wasn't trying to rap on it" Korn is probably in the same boat but i haven't listened to any of their stuff in 17 years. a lot of my friends in high school listened to Korn and Limp Bizkit and all that but i couldn't really get into it.

This era not only had those actual rap-rock groups, but those hybrid tracks in the most unexpected places...

Who are these dudes?
Shop Boyz, know for their rap/rock classic "party like a rockstar" which influenced urban fashion to include wallet chains and rock-like gear in the summer of 2007
