Floyd Mayweather is a very skilled fighter yes. But I'm tired of the fans touting this same excuse over and over acting like breh is a fine wine only true boxing fans will enjoy.
Hit and not be hit.
Of course that's the premise. And contrary to what y'all might say, that is something casuals as well as purists enjoy. From the likes of Cassius Clay, to Mike Tyson to Pernell Whittaker, to Roy Jones and all the other greats, rose to prominence because of their great defensive skills. How they so easily slipped and ducked their way through opponent punches.
It's well documented. People love seeing this displayed.
That's not the issue. That's not why people are bored with him.
Nor do we ask him to get into a slugfest like your average Mexican fighter.
It's cause he doesn't engage. He damn near jogs around the ring for 12 rounds then expects us to call him the Greatest of All Time. And that is what separates him from the actual greats, they actually engaged.
Not gunna happen.
Floyd rarely engages. It's one thing do not get hit actually hunting your opponent. (That's what the true greats actually did). But it's another thing to not get hit cause you're backing away skiddish most of the fight. To the point u got cats like canelo throwing down their hands like 'fight me'.
Floyd doesn't engage.
He treats it like a job he goes to and punches his clock to get paid. Not like a fighter passionate for the sport, who leaves everything in the ring.
This exaggerates his defensive prowess.
I respect it from a Money May point of view, sure. But not from a boxing point of view.
Bottom line. Floyd's greatness looks far better on paper than it does in the ring.
Again. Floyd's greatness looks far better on paper than it does in the ring.
That is why he can never be the Greatest of All Time
