From what I remember the drives were degrading faster than they should, and wound up having enough bad sectors(?) to reach a threshold where the drive would get stuck in read-only mode. Last I saw they were talking options of firmware fixes vs recalls, I never followed up on it.
I got 2 of these in my new build from back in January

I was reading that it was caused by the firmware allowing "phantom writes" that would cause the drive to appear full. It looks like drives manufactueed after mid 2022 won't have that issue. It mostly happened in China.

Im honestly considering returning the 980 and getting a WD SN850X

I just beat it. I’m on the dlc now. I really didn’t like Spider-Man. Batman was better. Spider-man is just one annoyance after the other. Like the whole game was a chore. I don’t know why I keep playing it

Its a shame, they used to be great.
I did that first too, and also the photo spots. They let you unlock gadgets and skills. I didn't bother to catch pigeons at all, as there was no gain from doing so (maybe an achievement, but I don't care about that). You'll get some "challenges" in the future, and you'll need to beat a bunch to get challenge tokens for upgrades. Those shyts are a pain in the ass.
I think you get a Research Token for each pigeon
