Let me preface by saying I'm not a PC gamer.
I'm looking at getting another iMac for my recording studio (because the majority of the software I use specifically for recording, production, and video editing is for Mac only).

These are the specs:
  • 4.2GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
  • 16GB 2400MHz DDR4
  • 1TB SSD
  • Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory
  • 27" 5K display
For the audio work I do this set up will be a monster. (I know I could get much more bang for my buck on a windows platform but again, I'm already heavily invested in mac software financially and skill set wise).

My question is, just out of curiosity, what games would I be able to play on this thing and what kind of performance could I expect.
Again, I'm not heavy into PC games and don't plan on getting into them either. If anything I could see myself playing Diablo3, Hearthstone, Half Life, and couple PS1 era and older roms from time to time. 9 times out of 10 I don't touch my computer unless I'm doing something for the studio business.
*Side note: I saw that via thunderbolt 3 this setup has the capability to use external GPU.

Don't kill me for this, ya'll know my thing is console gaming.
Dual boot with Windows 10 for games. Problem solved.

@Kamikaze Revy that will be able to play some games. Just dualboot Windows for sure. Gaming on macOS is trash.
Yeah I consistently discourage people from buying any Apple computer unless they find they absolutely need to be on that platform for any serious projects. I don’t expect to be in the convo with pc brehs about games when I only have macs. I was just wondering what that processor and gpu would be able to do gaming wise on the rare ocasión that I feel like dipping into pc games.

Yeah I think they are straight up dropping the Mac Pro trashcan and the whole Mac Pro line for that matter.

shyt is going to piss people off big time :mjlol:
I know there have been reports / rumors circulating of Apple finally making their computers modular allowing users to swap out parts on their own. That would be dope, and is grossly over due. I read somewhere that the new macs, while not directly supported, can all ready have processor upgrades. The reason I’m inclined to go the iMac route right now is for thunderbolt 3 expansion possibilities. The Mac Pro only comes with thunderbolt 2, go figure. It has dual gpus but I’d rather have one monster gpu than 2 decent ones that cannot be upgraded.

Eliminating. I just don't see how it fits into their current product strategy anymore. It's been years since they have even touched it.

breh, companies will be buying that by the hundreds... They arent even after the consumer market

Sometimes I want to hook my rig up to one of my 4K TVs to see what that IQ is really about...but this 144hz gaming has spoiled me. I legit can't unsee the frames in 60FPS now. I downloaded Wolfenstein TNO and apparently it was locked to 60FPS. I thought something was wrong with the performance of my PC. I can't even play it. :mjcry:

I'm sure if I played a game long enough, I could get used to it though. But...30fps. My god. I turned on my PS4 to play Ratchet & Clank the other week and I had to turn it off immediately. And I've never been the type to turn up my nose to playing at any framerate...but I don't know if I can go back :whoa:

And I don't even have a Gsync monitor. I don't know if I should get into that though. I may never turn on my consoles again :picard:

Consoles are fun little toys for the exclusives, but you have graduated. I almost feel ashamed to admit I finished wolfenstein on the xbox one, but I didn't want to buy it at full price with all the heat dropping for a short SP experience.

I spent $35 on The New Colossus from CDKeys. I can't believe you bought that on the Xbox. :dahell:

I think I may try out this Assassin's Creed Origins. But I have a feeling the physical will go on sale before the digital :patrice:
