Damn I'm not sure if it's just Forza Horizon 3 that eats up ram but i just borrowed a 4GB stick of RAM(same as mines) from my bro's desktop to test it out and that shyt fixed my stuttering/fps drops in FH3.

My specs(before the RAM):
Intel i5 4690K @ 4.00GHZ
8GB DDR3 at 1600MHz
MSI Armor 8GB GTX 1070(OC'd to +80MZ Core/+395 Memory clock stable as per Uniengine stress test)
Installed on a SSD

Before adding another 4GB, my RAM usage was really high according to RivaTuner in game. It was hitting like 7600MB usage. GPU and CPU usage were normal as per the settings as well as the temps.

In game the fps would often drop below 60fps to like 45~fps occasionally. This is at 4K on High settings, MSAA turned off and static and dynamic geometry on Medium. FPS smoothing on etc.

Lowering settings didn't make a difference nor did the resolution. The race I'd test it out on is the 3 circuit bridge in Surfer's Paradise. It always dropped there. After the RAM install I only tested for a few minutes but the drops immediately at the start of the race were gone. It was smooth as hell. This GTX 1070 is a monster. Running FH3 at 4k/60fps is just surreal. I'm sure I can probably bump up a couple settings to high along with MSAA 2X(seems to not work in the game..) since my GPU memory usage still had quite a lot to spare.

I noticed the RAM usage was already at like 8300MB. Is the game THAT hungry from RAM? Seems to be the only game that needed 12GB ram.
It says that the recommended amount of ram is 12GB.

why is the top cpu cheaper than the bottom one when it looks like the cheaper one is faster?

https://goo.gl/KvZoXM Intel Core i5-7600K LGA 1151 Desktop Processors

https://goo.gl/5yxfpW Intel Core i5 6600K 3.50 GHz Quad Core Skylake

trying to build a new system and am completely lost

I dont do much on my pc but is either of those cpus overkilled or am I good for a few years with them?

It's essentially just a refresher. Clearly go with the 7600K. If you go with the 7600K just make sure it's an intel 200 chipset.

What is the most demanding thing you do on the PC?

I use my pc to stream videos to multiple tvs

so transcoding is probably the most demanding thing

I know I can get away with a cheap setup but Ive had my current one for 3+ years so I rather get something that will give me years of use

Do you plan to overclock the CPU?

The 7600K is great, but you can get by with the regular 7600 or even AMD Ryzen 5 CPUs just fine.

Yeah @porque if you are interested in Ryzen let me know. I do have a Ryzen build that I am getting rid of soon and will cut someone a deal.

It's the 1800X however.

I might as well list the parts if anyone is interested in Ryzen

1800X
Cryorig H7 Heatsink with AM4 Bracket
Killer SLI X370 Board
2x8GB RAM Sticks (Hynix) DDR4 2133
2TB Seagate Desktop SSHD

I will let all of that go for $630 shipped. About $220 off buying it all new.
