@MartyMcFly fukking WB....not promoting Creed and not realizing what they had in Mad Max :snoop:

I mean lol it's obvious. It was done by famed director who's put in plenty of work and innovations. It's got very relevant issues. A female lead, clearly they felt like it kicked ass in every technical category. But this is what the buzz was nearly on it. They weren't sure what they had so they were uneasy about releasing it last summer and why it sat on a shelf for two years. They fukked up

Spotlight was boring, but I understand why it was boring. It's a movie where the story advances for the sake of the story (due to the nature of the subject), and not as a byproduct of the characters growing or devolving. The best stories in any medium are stories where the plot is advanced and driven by the characters weaknesses, failings, foibles, mistakes, stupidity, triumphs, et al.

Whether it's Hercules or Odysseus in antiquity, Citizen Kane, Godfather 1 and 2, Lady sings the blues, Casino, Malcolm X, Terminator 2, Memento, etc. shyt, even the bible is character driven. :yeshrug:
there are movies that are just about the story and are not character driven.

its based on a true story and they apparently stayed very true to that.

i agree

Even though I thought Spotlight was last year's best movie, along with The Big Short, but Mad Max could have done it. It was one of the most unique films ever mad.

That's what I was saying, lol. Due to the nature of the subject, it's a story driven narrative. I'm not deluded enough to say all stories are character driven. However, the best stories overwhelmingly tend to be character driven.

idk if thats true or not is what im saying.

I think this was a great movie and didnt need strong characters. We also rarely see narrative driven movies in Western culture.

Yeah. We were talking about that in the other thread; especially with Creed. They released it as another Rocky movie and by the time they got behind it, it was too late.

Should I watch Room or Spotlight?

Spotlight will have you saying, "I could see why this is Best Picture"

Room I think will probably be thought of more in the long term.

I'd check out both. Spotlight first and then Room.
