i watched the first episode a couple hours ago

it seems pretty good...hate how they swagged with 2 inaudible whispers as plot points back to back tho :francis:

and idk how to explain it, like i know it's based off the old movie or whatever, but for a show with such an interesting premise and concept...there's a few cliche'd moments in it :manny:

but i'm interested to see how it unfolds...the creators say they got 5 seasons already planned out...hope it don't get cancelled before then
one of the "inaudible whispers" was the shakespeare quote the father said in delores ear, i mean, they explained it.

yea i know, but it looked like he whispered way more than that to her really...like she left out some of it intentionally :manny:

and i'm more curious about what bernard whispered to peter before sending him into the defective host purgatory room

I'm honestly confused, and I consider myself fairly intelligent. I also don't like the whole Truman Show meets Hunger Games meets Aliens feel of this. It's just..too much. I wonder how the masses will take to this.

Ah, OK, got it.

Correction: This is Ex Machina meets A.I. meets The Hunger Games
It predates literally everything you've said. :mjlol:

The OG movie came out in '73.

Guys, I had a nightmare off of this shyt last night :ohhh::sadcam:

Maybe it left a stronger impression on me more than I originally thought. I really didn't like the pilot, but I think it was because I gave control issues, and sci-fi stories like this just bother me on a gut level. I'm gonna give it one more shot off of the strength of it infecting my dreams alone.

Is there any source material/background that would make things a little clearer before I watch the next episode?
I'm kinda lost :mjcry:

Gotta run this back tomorrow

Imagine "Red Dead Redemption" (or any open world video game, but that one in particular because it has an old west motif) if the NPCs (characters that aren't directly controlled by you) became sentient.

That's about the easiest way to sum it up.

Nolan has said specifically that Red Dead Redemption and Bioshock were influences in the creation of this show.

"Red Dead Redemption" is obvious, but some people might not get the "Bioshock" reference. There was a lot of anachronistic music in the 3rd game due to reality shifting fukkery.

I'm not saying they're going that route in this series, but the covers of "Blackhole Sun" and "Paint It Black" made me think of that game before I even seen what Nolan said in the thread.

I just watched it again. Picked up on a couple more little things but the big thing was that they basically said the last time west world went haywire like this was 30 years ago, same time Ed Harris started putting in work.
Also a reference to the original movie since that came out in the 70s
