The strength of Spain is in their midfield and defense. It the reason they dominate ball possesion.

I know the game. Dihno and Eto'o are long gone and were 2 of 11 players back then.

I think that we have skipped the importance of the simple fact, the Spainsh team had players that play generally on the same team and style of play making it easier to get in rythym when they play internationally. Its a huge advantage versus having 1/3 or half of your team playing in different leagues and then trying to develop that rythym in a different style for your national team.
