Let me answer as a Greek.

Football is the number one sport in Greece right now. It used to be basketball especially after the national team won the 1987 Eurobasket against Soviet Union but for the last 15 years you can't have a comparison. Right now there are only 2 basketball teams (Olympiacos and Panathinaikos) that can compete in continental levels (and as a matter of fact they're back to back Euroleague champions) but the rest of them are low-level.

Don't get it twisted though. If the b-ball national team has a crucial game, the streets are empty too.

UEFA charge Croatia over racist chants at Italy striker Balotelli

UEFA officials have acted to stamp out racism for the first time at Euro 2012 by formally charging the Croatian FA after receiving reports that fans allegedly made monkey chants at Italy striker Mario Balotelli.

Croatia are charged with 'improper conduct' of supporters, including 'racist chants and racist symbols' in their 1-1 draw with Italy in Group C at Poznan on Thursday.

UEFA officials received reports from anti-discrimination monitors working with Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), who claimed Croatia fans made monkey noises and displayed far-right nationalist flags.

Balotelli was replaced in the second half when the abuse was most intense.

The charge also relates to fireworks thrown after Croatia scored. UEFA said the case will be judged on Tuesday.

The Croatia FA have condemned the incidents which could lead to fines, a points deduction or even expulsion from the finals.

UEFA are also seeking evidence to support claims that the Czech Republic's Theodor Gebre Selassie was racially abused by Russian fans.

SMH @ the media continuing to critique him without even bringing up this aspect affecting his psych.

CAC's....:birdman:

Glad those Russians are going home....Poles out of their own tourny...at least some things are right in the world.

I like it...at least for a cup competition.

Wouldn't be right for a league with 30+ games....but for a small cup group, I think it's pretty fair that the teams advance through head to head. I didn't know it was like this for the Euro's, so hearing about this is a pleasant surprise for me.

Head to head in league or cup tournament, should always be the first tiebreaker, goal difference being the first tie breaker is just absurd to me.

They doing there best to highlight Andy Carrols goal

No it's not. In a league format goal difference is better as it encourages teams to score more goals and concede less.
