I'm tryna find out why tf Ottawa and Toronto have more cases on their own than all of british columbia and B.C DOESN'T EVEN FORCE YOU TO WEAR MASKS INDOORS. Are these anti-maskers spitting or is it just a fluke or is it just the backlog?

It's a combination of things. In August they announced their target for testing would be 20000 tests a day, so they test less than Ontario and Quebec. And they are more careful over there. If you remember the beginning of the pandemic, there were news stories about people lining around the block at pharmacies and supermarkets over there to buy their masks.

Ontario saw a drop in new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday as the death toll from the virus surpassed 3,000.

Provincial health officials reported 809 new cases Saturday – one day after confirming an all-time high of 939 coronavirus cases.

Another seven new deaths were reported, pushing the provincial total past 3,000.

Toronto leads the way with 358 new cases, followed by Peel with 123, and 94 in Ottawa.

The province has implemented new restrictions for the next 28 days in those three areas which will see indoor dining and drinking at bars, restaurants, nightclubs and food courts prohibited while all gyms, cinemas and casinos have been ordered closed.

The province says it processed 44,298 tests in the previous 24 hour period, which is the fewest number of tests completed in the last three days. The backlog of tests increased slightly to just over 56,000.

The number of hospitalizations dipped slightly to 213 while those patients in the ICU and on a ventilator remained unchanged.

Air Canada is still looking to take Transat AT under its wing despite the COVID-19 pandemic that has rocked the airline industry, but it will pay far less than originally expected.

The two companies have agreed on revised terms that would see Air Canada pay $5 a share for the parent company of Air Transat, compared to the $18 per share originally pledged in its takeover bid.

That brings the total price of the takeover to $190 million, down from $720 million previously.

Air Canada says in a news release that the pandemic has had a devastating effect on the aviation industry and the value of airlines and their assets, but it still wants to proceed with the acquisition.

The deal could be concluded in early 2021 if it is approved by Transat AT shareholders and regulators in Canada and the European Union.

The European Commission’s antitrust body, which is investigating the proposed merger, has not indicated whether it would give the green light.
