Toronto in the 90s has skinheads roaming all over the place. We knew not to go downtown alone or in small groups

heritage front

growing up all i knew was kkk was in georgetown and never visit keswick
now ill go to both of those areas and piss on their welcome to signs

T.O.
I never ever see brehs and I’ve been at my firm for 9 years and meeting nothing but executives on my client meetings. And when I do I jump for joy and they do the same.

and the ones I know are rare like Wes Hall who wrote an article in the globe and mail and Toronto star this week.

another one who I bumped into downtown and would say hi in passing is Kevin Hibbert who is absolute black excellence.

Kevin Hibbert

It’s pitiful how things are here. Smart, hard working and bright black folk are always relegated to entry level roles and given tiny incremental promotions but never break that glass ceiling.

I know plenty white dudes who literally fall out of bed into a prime job at an established company and in many cases they are mediocre.

It’s just rarely spoken about at least in the US they discuss the racism openly here they just erase blackness and shrug and move on.

the us has black ceos, directors etc. in canada good luck

I work for one of the biggest hospital networks in canada, and at the managerial/director/vp level there are like 5-6 black folks

lots of nurses, porters etc. but going higher yeah right

And yup white folks just fall forward, get a cushy 60-70k job right out of school becoming directors and ish at 30

And they would swear that it is fair this way and it's because black people aren't qualified. I hear and read that crap all the time "Well, they hire the best available". Glad this is getting some light cuz I always been mad about this shyt. The US is bad, but there are still a good amount of black folk who are balling out of control and who are extremely successful. We at least see this. Canada? Go ask a random person if they can name a black CEO or executive. They can't. So how do we expect young black boys and girls to aspire to a life beyond Customer service rep when they don't see images of black people who made it to the top? This is a systemic issue that I'm not sure if white people here have the capacity to undersand and fix. I'm also not sure if we have enough black people with the power to do something about it.

Having black people at the top jobs isn’t the sole solution, there has to be a community, not just black faces of top earners.

I wasn't saying that was the only solution. It's part of the solution. You have to have something to aspire to. A lot of things need to change. I'm older so I've been in the corporate world for over 15 years. I've seen it all. Black folk have a harder time and are kept in lower positions longer in many cases because of complacency but also managers setting low ceilings and thinking black people should be happy with a decent job while they help the white colleagues along to senior roles and management.

what do you propose as a solution to the problem besides the obvious like addressing racist practices.
