ORONTO -- A 13 year-old violinist from Vaughan, Ont. will soon perform at one the most prestigious concert venues in the world—Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Lincoln Haggart-Ives has been chosen to perform in front of hundreds this June after his mother entered him in the American Protege Music Competition.

“I couldn’t believe it, I thought I was dreaming,” Lincoln Haggart-Ives said.

The competition is open to children and adults from around the world and participants are required to submit an audition video.

The boy’s mother learned about the competition from a neighbour and immediately submitted a video.

“We got world last week that he placed as one of the winners,” Marie Haggart said. “I’m very proud.”

The 13-year-old will be performing one of his favourite pieces, Csardas by Italian composer Vittorio Monti, which was composed in 1904.

“I really like the piece because there are different parts that express different emotions,” he said.

Lincoln Haggart-Ives started playing the violin a month before his fourth birthday.

“We let him listen to all types of music when he was a baby and I think it just got him going. He’s a natural,” his mother said.

He practices about an hour to an hour and a half every day. Over the past decade, he’s won several awards.

“I enjoy learning new pieces and branching out and getting to explore different types of music,” he said.

Performing at Carnegie Hall is something many musicians dream of.

“It shows that hard work, perseverance and dedication pays off,” Maria Haggart said.

Lincoln Haggart-Ives is proud of this accomplishment and adds he has even bigger aspirations.

“I would like to perform with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra or the national orchestra.”

scarborough isn't even bad anymore except for maybe some areas on kingston road. Can't tell the last time I heard of like some slaying at galloway or malvern.

Alot of people like 10-15 years when they got money they moved to Ajax and brampton, even today brampton is the cheapest area in the GTA (vaughan, richmondhill, scarborough, missisauga, toronto, brampton) if you want to buy a house

brampton also has the highest congregation of black people percentage wise
So these people are coming from family homes acting like criminals. They are not even on in community housing.

Tragic clowns

Black Man heaven :blessed:

Dallas is the goat American city I went there for the first tome a few years ago and fell in love with it.

Can buy a big ass house in suburbs for like under 200k usd, food is cheap, weather is great. A lot to do, a lot of upper and rich black folks.

people talk about the states but there is no where in the world where a black man can succeed and gdt opportunities like America .

I predict in the next 5-10 years you will see a major exodus of black people from toronto, the city is just too expensive and we are still at the bottom gnawing away.
Toronto will loose all its soul soon enough.

A lot of people who grew up here are not reflected in the new culture. Plus the city is even more segregated than before.

Gone will be the art scene and all the cultural currensy that got it popping the last decade. So many bland and boring lifeless people have moved here chasing the essence while disrupting it.

Toronto can be weird, the census says we make up a small portion of the population, but where does everyone live?

Scarbs, Brampton, Sauga, Ajax, Chatham, Hamilton and all the random pockets in Toronto. There's also a huge Caribbean population in Leamington near windsor

On the low, a lot of Jamaicans live in small towns.
