bring a backup phone and use that when you go out

Yea it is. I was there last year, and even back then you were hearing about people getting scoplamine or other drugs slipped into their drinks.

Its not as bad as places like Colombia, but it's still a threat in Nairobi. Its not like that in mombassa or naivasha though.

Times are tough in Kenya and people are getting desperate.
