no we're not, we just lack the level of support the damn U.S gives it's hustlers.
It doesn’t make sense to run a business. Only the big boys are protected and because they run monopolies, it’s hard as hell for the little guy to compete. This country does not reward high achievers. Why would anyone go through the trouble of starting a business when they could go sell some houses? We have so many natural resources and reuse to monetize them. Just brain dead government and people do not think big here mainly because we don’t see it from others.

i am considering moving to the US in 2025 because of this very reason

literally every industry is oligopolistic and they know they can pay employees less as a result despite the cost of living issues in Toronto

in banking for instance you have the big 5 banks
  • in the USA you have the JP Morgans, BofAs and Citis, but also have the Evercores, Goldmans, Moelis, William Blair, Baird, Guggenheim, PJT etc.

in private capital you have a few pension plans, brookfield and onex - Brookfield and Onex at least compete with the US firms so pay accordingly.
  • US you have at least 50 prominent firms lol.

in law - you have 7 prominent firms List of largest Canada-based law firms by revenue - Wikipedia

in VC - you have damn near zero prominent firms
  • in the USA its flooded

Not to mention for entrepreneurial aspirations they have firms that actually can start up, innovate, compete and gain customers who are willing to take risks + VCs who are willing to take risk.

i gotta gtfoh

I was actually shocked when I was helping someone look for jobs and what some of the cdn banks pay for managerial roles. Stagnant of wages is bad in canada almost as bad as UK

hell yeah! gimme the same taxation you give the big corps, guaranteed more people with small businesses would quit their jobs and continue to re-invest in their own small businesses.

Taxes and reductions are already ridic in canada

I just took a look at my first pay stub of the year and from taxes, CPP, EI, company pension, dental and health

Honestly the only people who really enjoy toronto are those who bought a property 10-15-20 years ago, those who are locked into cheap rent, those who are rich.

Yeah it's a safe big city but even with a good or great paying job you can't really enjoy yourself. I went to walmart today and was outside for 1 minute and was freezing cold. Just reminded myself how last week I was in 30 degree kampala weather.

Every new airline that comes in either goes bankrupt or gets swallowed up by west jet or air canada. Every phone company the same gets swallowed up by bell, rogers or telus.

Although I do rail over the high amount of immigrants coming in without us having the means to support. I still feel sorry for them as they are being sold the canadian dream, only for the majority to come over and working for min wage or doing uber 12 hrs a day and living in a basement with 5 other people.
