Haven't watched the show yet (Wednesdays suck for me these days), but I did watch the announcement and...well, I didn't expect that. This probably explains why guys like The Briscoes, Gresham, and Josh Woods (despite having a great Dark match with Shawn Spears a few weeks back) haven't been brought in yet. I'll be very interested to see what happens with ROH going forward.
How much you think he paid?
Totally speculating here, but probably somewhere between $5-7 Million, and absolutely no more than $10 Million. Given that Vince got WCW sans TV deal and with sinking ratings and negative fan equity for $3 Million in 2001 ($4.8 Million or so in 2022 dollars). I could see ROH being worth around $3 Million and possibly a little more in 2022 dollars if all the rights deals were still in place. Add on that he probably had to overpay for it (since Sinclair's having some major problems structurally and financially at the moment, as well as the fact that acquisitions like this tend to involve overpaying for the property regardless. It's why WWE will probably sell for $5 Billion or more even though that's not at all what the company is worth), and I could see it being in that range I named above. It's obviously lower if the media deals weren't in place (also dependent on things like what a "roster" means for ROH at this point).
Does this mean he has the video library prior to 2012? That's the only thing that really matters.
According to the press releases, yes, which would be great for any potential HBOMax streaming deal (they'd be stupid to create a streaming platform of their own after watching what happened to the WWE Network. Bet they're also watching how the Network on Peacock is working out as well). Time will tell, though.
