this film had entertaining moments and some dope visuals, but so many missed opportunities imo

why even do a gorr storyline if you gonna take out some of the best aspects of it

i also feel like they tried really hard to recreate ragnarok ... whenever a film studio does this it usually doesnt go well imo

not trash, but prolly more of a definition of mid ... the forced cut down run time didnt help

i enjoyed dr strange 2 more

There are movie critics that ripped this film apart and said that it was the MCU version of Batman & Robin :merchant:
I always wonder how people so easily forget where we came from when they try to do comedy super hero movies.

They used to be universally hated as campy. People aren't trying to see Blankman in 2022, this is a post Dark Knight Returns Heath Ledger winning an Oscar for Joker world. It's okay to treat these like prestige films even if you think comics are silly. Comedies in general are usually less well received by critics and rarely have sequels that live up to the first one even when you do make a good one.

That doesn't mean you erase all humor though, to me it means, maybe use a director like Jordan Peele instead of Taika Waititi.
Jordan Peele can inject his humor into a film while still keeping it firmly planted in the genre the film actually is supposed to be in. Get out was funny, but i never thought at any point i was watching a comedy spoof of a horror thriller like say Scary Movie. Taiki is straight up Scary Movie status, not wayans scary movie either, he charlie sheen scary movie.

plus MCU is an ongoing series. How many comedies make it to 4 or 5 sequels while still being funny?
Look at all the longest running film franchises, usually they are stuff like Star Trek, Star Wars, James Bond, Harry Potter, Horror Movies etc. Comedies aren't built to go 12 films deep. People get tired of them much faster.

My problem with Thor is that not only does Love and Thunder not know what it wants to be, but it seems to be the same case with his character throughout the MCU timeline as well. Are we aiming to see Thor portrayed as mighty and compelling or a meathead whose Spotify playlist consists of only Guns N’ Roses. Which is it?

They can do both, but will need to get a director in chair who can bring a nice balance between serious and comedic. Felt like while this film settled down towards the end, the over-the-top silliness still was too much to overcome.

That all became irrelevant when The Avengers was a box office and critical hit.

The Avengers was an action comedy.

Marvel movies outside of the Russo bros flicks and 1 or 2 others since then have been action comedies since.

From accounts this movie is a slapstick comedy where you just get characters acting intentionally DUMB and hyper exaggerated with the overall movie having a goofy tone to generate laughs.

Marvel didn't even do that with a goofy ass concept like Guardians of The Galaxy and haven't done that with any of the other movies.
