I think Gallinger is that racist. I think it's a little bit of both. He resents algernon just because he knows he's "better", but him being black(someone who shouldn't be his superior much less his equal) is what really upsets him. He wants his white privilege card to work now more than any other time. Algernon being black and excellent is the icing on the cake for why he can't accept Dr. Edwards. If Algernon was beneath him, he probably wouldn't care as much

The bolded is it. His face during that eugenics discussion showed he was conflicted because if eugenics were true how can he explain this brilliant, innovative black doctor.

I'm surprised Algernon didn't comment on how Thackery was bouncing around on cocaine and heroin. He obviously noticed it.

At this point, I think its fair to say that I think this is the greatest medical TV show of all time.


I think I just realized that Gallinger isn't really that racist compared to everyone around him. All he ever wanted was to be second in line behind Thackery. That's why he said to Algernon "If you think I'll ever work for you, you're as dumb as you think I think you are." He KNOWS Algernon is smarter than him, he doesn't believe that eugenics stuff at all.

This is just me tossing out ideas but I have a feeling that eugenics is indirectly (or maybe directly) going to lead to them shytting on his wife, who is obviously mentally ill. And he's going to son them by introducing them to Algie.
