Venus through. Sad more people don't openly acknowledge the Venus and Serena story. Many people know who they are but, in my opinion, they don't get the accolades that should come their way. When you consider the sport and lack of black participation, their achievements should be lauded even more. Before Serena and Venus only two black players won a major tournament in singles. Everyone knows Arthur Ashe, who won three major singles titles and is still the only black man to win one of the four majors in singles. Often overlooked and under appreciated is Althea Gibson, who was the first black person to ever win a major. She won five titles in the late fifties. Point is them excelling in this country club, elitist sport may be the most marginalized story in the history of all sports and that's not hyperbole. Talk about black excellence.
