Lol alot of stuff.
1) the heat. I'm a fall-winter kind of person. The heat here is so stifling and uncomfortable. The humidity feels sticky and gross.
2) having drive everywhere. I've never been a fan of driving. Especially since my parents chose to live out in the woods it always takes me at least 10-15 minutes to get out to a store. Then to get to any decent civilization takes 20-25 mins. It's annoying and discouraging as hell. When I think about all the trouble and time it would take to go somewhere I get discouraged and would rather stay home.
3) too many old folks who want everything dry and boring. In NYC, activity going on around them made old people feel involved whereas here activity going on around old people makes them feel scared and threatened.
4) everyone's personality is odd. I feel that Florida's are very friendly on the surface but are guarded when you try to get to know them deeper. It's odd because in NY we are known to be rude or curt but we are alot more open and you get to truly connect and get to know someone. Floridians seem super friendly and helpful but you don't get more than 1 inch deep with them. We've been here for 6 years but no one in my family has made any friends.
5) not enough activities to do. You gotta search real hard to find something going on in Florida whereas you can run into something random just walking down the street in Manhattan. Also nyc government itself plans alot of activities and partners with schools and programs. And they advertise it well on the radio, newspaper, TV,etc. So if you want you can pop in to check something out. It felt everything was for everyone in New York. Whereas here its like shyt be going on and you never hear about it. Like it only makes rounds amongst certain crowds.
6) no useful public transportation
7) no sense of roots. I don't feel anyone here feels particularly connected to their area. In NYC ask people where they from and you get a speech. I can tell you all about my experience in crown heights and east new york, and my school's, college area. Everything had a feeling to it. Here its just whatever. There's no sense of pride or sentiment towards any area. Even if you own a house people don't feel like they really really OWN it. They just know they live there. Idk how to explain it.
As someone who has lived up north and down here a good amount, I understand your point #2, if you dont have a car youre fukked and I totally understand that feeling of "Damn do I really drive 45 mins to get somewhere and back etc" and end up lightin one up at the crib and chilling. There a few areas where you can realistically get around and live life without a car but thats for the "Downtowns" in most of the cities down here.
Most floridians or people who live in florida nowadays, arent even native floridians lol. most of these people have moved down here and especially in the palm beach area, you have an influx of CACs moving down here for rehabs stints and all that shyt. Most people living down here, are not from here like that. I totally agree with activities, sometimes shyt be popping off but its not really poppin like that lol. I get random shows or concerts or whatever is nyc and shyt was fun, that really does not go on down here EXCEPT when the super bowl is down here, THAT shyt is fun, mad shows, concerts and events in the week leading up to, at least that was the case when the Saints played the Colts years back. I truly believe to measure a floridian, you gotta know where they come from....might sounds weird but for example, every person I met that was from Coral Springs is WEIRD as FUKK.
