just watching all the games and listening to the music gets me nostalgic :mjcry:

even now, new games cant compete with the gameplay mechanics of the dreamcast. its just so unique.

Some of the games still hold up even now. :feedme:

[edit]

How yall feel about SEGA pushing Virtual Reality when Nintendo was still on its SNES?

SEGA Renews Virtua Fighter Trademark

"I saw this floating around Twitter a few days ago, but has now been covered by VFDC and Shoryukenso why not cover it? SEGA has renewed the Virtua Fighter trademark according to trademarkia on July 4th. What does renewing the Virtua Fighter trademark possibly mean for the future of the franchise? Possibly nothing, seeing as SEGA does this all the time. Back in 2012 we did a story about SEGA renewing the Skies of Arcadia trademark and now we know that didn’t mount to much.

Of course SEGA renewed the Virtua Fighter trademark to protect its IP, not to mention they still do stuff with the franchise from time to time. For example Virtua fighter characters have had cameos in games like Smash Bros, Dead or Alive 5 ,Project x Zone 1/2 and even Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax. As we covered before, it has been a decade since the release of Virtua Fighter 5 and if the franchise needs anything its a new entry. Bring on Virtua Fighter 6, SEGA!

I personally think SEGA can test the market by re-releasing Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdowndefinitive edition on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Maybe try some experiments like Tecmo Koei did with Dead or Alive which had a free-to-play version and a full package release. But anyway, what are your thoughts on SEGA renewing the Virtua Fighter trademark? What do you want to see for the future of the franchise?"

Sega never fully capitalized on the popularity of the game. Networks were offering an animated series of the game & I don't remember why Sega didn't follow through with that

Sega of Japan wanted to focus on Virtua Fighter, made SOA kill off the EC franchise.

A third and a final title Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter was advertised for the Sega Saturn, but the game was cancelled shortly after beginning production, in order to push the Virtua Fighter series in the United States.[15] According to an interview with Michael Latham, this decision was made by Sega of Japan: "Sega of Japan felt that Eternal Championswas keeping Virtua Fighter from being more successful in the US and that it would be better if the company focused on only one franchise.. ..and as Sega is a Japanese company, the Japan side won. It was a crushing blow, and was the only time in working nearly a decade at Sega I considered quitting. I mainly stayed with the hope to change that decision, but sadly never could. Even when we did the NetFighter project for Heat.net, we weren't able to use the Eternal characters as a hidden bonus. From Japan's view the game never existed, in spite of its stellar sales and even offers to do comic books and a cartoon around it."[16]

SOJ was always pulling some fukery & crazy decision making. They totally pissed away an opportunity where both games could've coexisted & expanded the brand
