When the PS4 released, were there issues with the launch consoles?

I'm asking because I was talking with a coworker yesterday, and he said he was waiting to get a PS5 because defective PS4 consoles were released at launch.

I don't remember this at all

I got my launch ps4 and it's still going. Launch ps3 died within 2 years. Ps2 wasn't even launch and died within 2 years. It's a gamble.

They've said that the majority of ps4 games will work, but the top 100 games have been enhanced for the ps5.

The only thing that's unclear is if they will continue to update more ps4 titles in the future.

The PS5 doesn't have optical output.
I'm not fussed as my TV supports eARC via HDMI but it seems like a strange omission as a lot of people have surround sound systems that use optical.

t gets a little more complicated for people who want to bring their PS4-ready Astro wireless headset to the PS5. Sony’s next-gen console doesn’t have an optical audio port, which seems like it spells trouble for headset owners. However, the trouble isn’t as bad as having to go buy a brand-new headset. Instead, to make up for Sony’s omission of the port, Astro is releasing an HDMI-to-optical audio splitter that will allow your headset to interface with the PS5 with no additional firmware needed. It supports HDMI 2.1, HDCP, and 4K passthrough. Astro says it won’t introduce any input lag, and because it’s Dolby-compliant product, the sound shouldn’t be worse off, either.
