Copped a 24-70 2.8 ii after my cousin called me asking to shoot my aunt's bday this weekend. Only used my camera once or twice in these last five years or so, but I've always wanted this lens so fukk it lol. Think my kit is finally complete: 5d iii, 24-70 2.8 ii, 70-200 f4 ii, 40mm Pancake, Tokina 16-28 2.8. I got some other shyt too, but these are all my favorite tools. I'm still kicking myself for letting go of my 5Dc when I was in a pinch back in the day though, that model produces images with an IQ that I've never seen any like other. If you got a studio and canon ef lenses on hand I'd definitely recommend having it as a part of a dedicated portrait rig. Like I said, I don't really shoot at all anymore, but it's still nice to have this stuff on hand if the need ever arises.
anyone have or built a photo studio?
I'm getting a media room at our new church building and going to have a photo studio
I used to have a studio back in the day. I still got my garage that I converted to a yoga studio for my wife that I can use in a pinch if someone ever needs to get some photos taken. You don't need to go overboard on the lights unless you plan on doing big shoots outside imo. A couple good sized speedlights and umblrellas/softboxes along with a way to trigger them is all you really need imo. I've been able to overpower high noon sun with a couple yongnuo 565's doubled into various modifiers before. Of course stronger stationary lights would be ideal, but if you'll be shooting events at the church and don't already have a few speedlights on hand, I'd invest in those first since they could serve double duty.
