I'm looking to upgrade to another prime lens. I already have the 50mm. Now I need a good 35mm.. Of course, price would tell me to get the most expensive.. but still, what do y'all think. I'm using a Sony A7iii

Sony FE 35 mm F1.8 - newest - $750

Sony Sonnar T* FE 35 mm F2.8 ZA - $799

Sony Distagon T* FE 35 mm F1.4 ZA - $1699.. you know what I want :mjcry:
Breh if your even looking at $1,699 lenses you should have been gone with the Sony 16 - 35 g master lens which has a constant 2.8 throughout the focal range so it’s like having a couple different prime lenses in one lens.

I was thinking that. Just getting a zoom that incorporates the 35. But I think of the saying “you can do one thing great or 2 things good”

That’s kinda why I’m asking y’all. I know which one would be the best. But do I need all that? Will I truly be just fine with $300 glass? Or would that be like putting a ford engine in the lambo?

I guess that’s what I’m asking

Well as far as one thing great or 2 things good...that doesn't apply to the G Master lens or Sigma Art Lenses.
Those lenses in my experience have been amazing and produce results just like several different prime lenses all in one lens.
I shoot primarily video and some photography.
For the way I shoot (run and gun); less is more. If I can minimize my kit to 2 - 3 lenses max, I will. I have a bunch of lenses, including primes, and still most days I only take my sigma art 18 - 35 and my sigma art 50 - 100 and that's it.

my cousin uses the AF 35mm rokinon and i think @8WON6 got it too. lens does good work and i think its 1.4 and its like $600
i use the samyang/rokinon 35mm AF 1.4. I can't compare it to any of the others because i haven't used them, but yall can see my results. I shoot mainly portraits where i get to slow down and control what i'm doing. But like @Kamikaze Revy said, if dude is looking at a $1600 lens then might as well get that 16-35 gmaster.

Not to annoy you, but do you know what filters to use to accomplish that effect?
Once you open an image in the app, click on the tools tab and look for the settings that I circled in red.

You'll have to adjust the intensity of the effects on your own, but it allows you to apply grain, light leaks and scratches etc to your images to get that vintage look you're going for

I hit up YouTube for comparisons on glass before I make a decision.
:yeshrug:
I wanted something small and compact, and the image quality and video for it held up in everything I saw, so I copped.

No complaints. The build quality is cheap but it's a value buy.

Thanks for the help. It’ll be awhile before I cop but I’ll let y’all know.

I got my sigma mc-11 adapter to adapt my cannon sigma art lenses to my Sony A7riii.
Took a couple test shots and these art lenses on the Sony are bananas. I’m gonna mess with them today more but my initial impression is that the art lenses look even better than the g master lens.
