Panasonic has announced the development of its first two mirrorless cameras: the Lumix S1R and S1. As part of the newly revealed L-Mount Alliance, the two cameras will feature Leica’s L lens mount.
Inside both the S1R and S1 will be 35mm full-frame sensors, and both cameras are designed to make a splash in the world of video: they’re set to be the first full-frame mirrorless cameras to offer 4K 60p video recording.
Both cameras also pack an in-body Dual I.S. image stabilization system, dual XQD/SD memory card slots, and a rugged triaxial tilt LCD.
“In recent years, telecommunications lines have increased in speed while social media video-sharing has gained popularity and as a result, more and more people are enjoying a hybrid of photos and videos, widening the range of expression in content production,” Panasonic says. “This new field prompted the need for a new type of camera that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional photos and videos.”
Thus, the S1R and S1 are designed to be geared toward still photographers and videographers.
While the full specs of the cameras have yet to be announced, we’re hearing that the S1R is a 47-megapixel camera and that the S1 will offer 24 megapixels.
Panasonic says it’s planning to develop over 10 LUMIX S series lenses by 2020, including a 50 mm f/1.4 fixed-focus lens, a 24-105mm standard zoom lens, and a 70-200mm telephoto zoom
I love my GH5 to death.
At a Photokina that’s set to be dominated by mirrorless full-frame cameras that cost thousands of dollars, Fujifilm has announced something even more advanced, opulent, and headline-grabbing: the 51.4-megapixel GFX 50R, which combines a medium format sensor with a rangefinder-style body.
We rightly think of full-frame cameras as the high-end, professional tier of photography gear, but there’s yet another step above them, and that’s medium format. Fujifilm’s mirrorless GFX camera system — which made its debut at Photokina 2016 with the GFX 50S — is built around a sensor that’s 70 percent larger than a full-frame / 35mm format. As of today, you can buy a GFX 50S for $5,850, body only, but Fujifilm’s freshly unveiled and streamlined GFX 50R will be substantially cheaper, costing $4,500 when it launches in late November.

This year's Photokina bout to be flames. All these Cameras came out at once and they all gone be there. I wish I could afford to travel. This would be the one year to go.
Alongside news that it will partner with Panasonic and Sigma in an L-mount alliance, Leica has announced something for medium-format fans too: the Leica S3. Details are thin at this point, but the S3 will increase resolution from the S2's 37.5 megapixels up to 64 megapixels. Leica also promises a "large and bright SLR viewfinder," 3 fps burst shooting and 4K video capture. The Leica S3 is slated to arrive in spring of 2019.
thats the one right there. if i was a portrait artist, that got paid to do it, that camera would get copped
Sigma has announced that it’s developing a full-frame L-mount mirrorless camera as part of the company’s new L-Mount Alliance with Leica and Panasonic. At the core of the camera will be a sensor with Sigma’s Foveon technology.
The Russian camera brand Zenit has announced a new full-frame “mirrorless” camera. Called the Zenit M, it’s a rangefinder based on the Leica M (Type 240) created in collaboration with Leica.
Krasnogorsky Zavod, which manufactures Zenit-brand gear under the ownership of Shvabe Holding, announced back in 2016 that it would be bringing the Zenit brand back from the dead to battle Leica in luxury. In 2017, the company revealed it would be launching a full frame mirrorless camera in 2018 with a “leading photographic equipment company.” That company is Leica.
Zenit says it made both hardware and software modifications to the Leica M (Type 240) in creating the Zenit M, so it isn’t simply a cosmetic rebadge (though, the look of the Zenit M is inspired by famous Zenit and Zorky cameras).
Fujifilm today announced that it’s currently building its third GFX medium format mirrorless camera. The new flagship camera will feature a 102-megapixel sensor and a number of firsts among its kind
Zeiss has announced the ZX1, a new full-frame compact camera with a fixed 35mm f/2 lens. It’s the first-ever full-frame camera by Zeiss.
One unusual feature of the ZX1 is that it has Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC is fully integrated into the camera, allowing photographers to process RAW photos directly.
