Didn't know a photography thread existed on this sub. I've been out the hardware knowledge of the game for 3 ish years now.
Want 2 types of camera's
First Use Case - regular photos (I want a top of the line camera, currently have a older canon gen 5d mark 3, nikon d800 - I'd like a camera around under 1200-2K in that range. I use these cameras for tutorials videos for customers
Second Camera - small compact camera for light taking photos
Another use case - I want a camera that I can use for track days, that is better than a go-pro, go-pro's are great but they are lacking in many ways. I want a small / compact camera that I can use for track days. Someone has suggested I just find a strong mount and just use one of the bigger cameras but I do not want to do that.
I'd like to keep my overall expenses under 5K, It'll be considered a business expense

Exactly. But it's those hobbyists that swear they want to make a living out of this that take bottom of the barrel prices and destroy the market.
It's crazy how many jobs I've had to walk away from because the customer tells me that they know a person that will do the video for $100 - $150.
The funny thing is that they never become repeat customers because at that price the quality is amateur as hell.
I run into a lot of people that think they can put together what we do with their own iphones. It's nuts.
That's why I take my portfolio serious and avoid the dirt cheap prices.
I'd rather due the gig 100% for free instead of charging something close to nothing.
man don't get me started. I'm like, if them old photographers had a sd card they would ditch all that film shyt. And like you said, alot people don't even shoot film right. You still need be sharp and exposed properly.@ these dudes grabbing a film camera and posting their blurry out of focus work like it's the shyt.
I swear, people love being try hards no matter what. I love the look of film when done right, but some of these dudes posting some mediocre stuff and acting like it's amazing.
My unc got a film joint for me, just ain't went over there to kick it and pick it up. I feel like some people are missing great captures/moments trying to be 'cool' instead of just capturing a dope scene with their digital camera.
and what hobbyists and people who get pissy about "proper" pricing is that, i get taxed heavier than a big business and i pay for my own health insurance out of my pocket.. and business insurance. so yeah, i gotta charge you, ontop of all the years i put in to learning my shyt. i'd rather shoot for myself than shoot for cheap.Exactly I hate that about being independent, I have a business, not for taking pictures yet but for doing taxes and I know my worth so I charge accordingly and it’s still less than what the big companies charge. People be like I know a guy that can do your taxes for $75 or I can do them for free myself. But they have know problem overpaying H&R block or whoever instead of paying my rate.
I have know problem telling people if my price don’t fit your budget then we can’t do business. I’m not suffering because people undercharge

exactly, I used to be on that budget price shyt until I got confident in my abilities now Id rather lose your money than give in to what YOU think I'm worth. you can take your shyt somewhere else. people are also quick to count your pockets, I had one person try to be slick and say my price went up cause I have a lot of customers or some shyt. or they say you getting a lot of money you can let me slide with a discount, I'm like.. nikka I am giving you a discount, I should charge moreand what hobbyists and people who get pissy about "proper" pricing is that, i get taxed heavier than a big business and i pay for my own health insurance out of my pocket.. and business insurance. so yeah, i gotta charge you, ontop of all the years i put in to learning my shyt. i'd rather shoot for myself than shoot for cheap.
old brehs be saying that shyt on podcasts i be listening to. they be on some "hell no i'm not going back to film for paid work" they shoot film for shooting film, but they love lcd's and sd cards and high ISO.
@shutterguy can you please explain your process of submitting photos again to magazines? I took it down in my notes from this thread but can’t find it remember what you wrote
What I did is find out if the mag has a submissions page or some of them will advertise a themed type shoot they are looking for shoots for (motorcycle, christmas, black lingerie, etc.) Edit up to 10 shots that you are happy with and send them over. If they accept what you send, those images are not to be shown anywhere online, the model and you have to keep it under wraps until the issue comes out.
Here are few mags that I had work in:
Fashion - Glamour - Pinup - Photography - Networking Magazine : Snap Matter
MODERN MODEL MAGAZINE
Sweet and Inked Magazine | MagCloud <--- Sweet and Inked mag. Not sure what happened with their website, their IG is up but only has 1 post @sweetinkedmagazine • Instagram photos and videos
A lot of these are online mags that run PDF copies through Magcloud. Some of them will go months without a new issue so if they accept what you send you have to have patience. I submitted one shoot, it was almost 6 months to a year later before it was published. Quite a few mags use IG for advertising submissions so you will have to search for "magazine" on IG.
Thanks! Ill get paid plus have alot of models be tempted to give the p*ssy up without me asking at the potential that they end up in a magazine.
Great work! Especially having people think that you add that aspect for the "art"
