We just drafted Hurst, you really can’t make this up tho....:russ:
That's a great pick. We got a top 15-20 talent in the 5th round. I know heart conditions, but he's had these issues all through his playing time in Michigan. Never missed a game, I don't think.

Michigan DT Maurice Hurst 'best player in this draft that's not a QB,' analyst says

Maurice Hurst isn’t just a steal. He’s The Wilcox Train Robbery. He’s The Italian Job with 32-inch arms and a 77-inch wingspan. He’s a Danny Ocean heist, an Auric Goldfinger plot, waiting to be hatched.

Yet the engine, the guts of some of the best defenses in modern Michigan football history is, of early Friday morning, still stuck inside the NFL draft’s claw machine like a toy tiger, waiting to be plucked.

Thirty-two teams had a chance to give their defensive line a kick up the backside late Thursday night. All thirty-two elected to pass, at least where No. 73 was concerned.

It doesn’t so much boggle the mind so much as whack the mind, repeatedly, with a 28-ounce aluminum bat.

“I still believe he’s the best player available in this draft that’s not a quarterback,” Pro Football Focus analyst Josh Liskiewitz told Land of 10 when asked about Hurst, the Wolverines’ All-American defensive tackle and one of the best talents still left on the 2018 NFL draft board.

“But he [wasn’t going] to go in the top 5, and he [wasn’t going] to go top 20. And I can’t, for the life of me, figure out what the NFL doesn’t get about that.”

@^$%&+# EKG.

That’s what.

“Watch some film,” Liskiewitz sighed. “Because that guy is going to come in and blow up the NFL.

“I know his testing numbers aren’t Aaron Donald’s. I just think he’s going to be huge impact player for whoever might get him. It’s crazy to think he might be part of a team that’s already loaded.”

Yeah I had to think about it for awhile. If the picks actually pan out then we’ve at least begun to get Mack some help. I’d say let’s keep shooting for as many defensive playmakers as possible.

Glad to see we’re not factoring character issues anymore.

DT Maurice Hearst is medically cleared to play ball. Raiders got a steal, 1st round talent

^^ this.

They noticed the mild nature of his irregularity at Michigan before his freshman year. They’ve monitored it, and he’s been full go every year since. He’s good. Future pro bowler.

Now i gotta get a Hurst Oakland jersey. He’s such a good dude brehs. He’s gonna ball out for you guys. Just watch. :mjcry:

No. 110 – Nick Nelson, CB, Wisconsin
sddefault.jpg

I’m a really big fan of this pick. Nelson isn’t flashy, but he’s a player who can make an immediate impact for Oakland.

In three years of college football — two at Hawaii and one at Wisconsin — he did not register an interception. Don’t let that skew your perception. Nelson broke up a ton of passes last year — 21 of them — and 41 in his career. That’s what the Raiders are buying with him.

Nelson was Pro Football Focus’ No. 52 overall prospect and was a First-Team Big Ten player last year. Had he not torn his meniscus in a private workout with the Lions before the draft, he might have been selected sooner. (NFL Network reported that he only needed a trim of his meniscus — he said he’s four weeks away from being back on the field.)

Nelson ran a 4.52-second 40-yard dash but has the physicality to press off the line and outwork bigger receivers. In Paul Guenther’s Cover-2/Quarters defense, that’s an ideal characteristic. I can see Nelson making an immediate impact for the Raiders in 2018.

Potential: B (Nelson could be a solid No. 2 cornerback)
Need:
A+ (Boy did the Raiders need a cornerback)
Fit:
A+ (Paul Guenther is going to love Nelson)

Overall Grade: A… A tremendous scheme fit with an underrated player in this draft (in my opinion) who could make an immediate impact in 2018. At No. 110, there can be absolutely no complaints.

raiders drafting all the highly skilled players but sketchy past now. Silver and black is back :blessed:
Azeem Victor:

STRENGTHS
Looks the part of an NFL linebacker with broad shoulders, a v-shaped torso and good overall weight distribution, as well as room for additional muscle mass. Seems to enjoy the physicality of the game, playing with the raw fury of the traditional glass-eating linebacker. Aggressively takes on would-be blockers with an explosive punch and looks to take them out, sometimes knocking they and the ball-carrier into each other for two "tackles" on the same play... Lowers his shoulder and drives his hips into ball-carriers to deliver big hits and isn't satisfied with that, twisting opponents as they go to the ground and even getting in extra shots as until the echo of the whistle. Very good body control in tight spaces, showing the slippery athleticism to elude blockers and split gaps to create spark big plays at the line of scrimmage or when in pursuit. Good change of direction and a smooth accelerator among linebackers, showing graduate-level awareness of potential pass-catchers around him as well as the routes they might be running, cutting off passing angles. Counters his reputation as a trouble-maker with charitable work including his own "Azeem's Dream" which organizes donated backpacks and other school supplies and delivers them to children in need. -- Rob Rang 2/3/2018

WEAKNESSES
Too often a step late to the action, showing more of a read-and-react style rather than anticipating where the ball is going. Once he sees where the ball is headed, too often Victor takes risky angles to get it, undercutting would-be blockers and allowing runners who see him coming to pony up to their cavalry to hide and squirt free on the other side, resulting in the kind of missed assignments that can leave coaches (and teammates) frustrated... Gets grabby in coverage, toeing the line between holding and providing a physical jam to re-route running backs and tight ends... Gets a bit ahead of himself as a tackler, at times, loading up to deliver a big hit and leaving cutback opportunities. Doesn't break down consistently, reaching his arms out to grab hold and 'rassle (or throw) ball-carriers to the ground rather than using traditional textbook tackling technique. Plays with little regard for his own safety, flailing his limbs around the pile and leaving himself vulnerable with a broken leg (2016) already in his medical chart... Comes with significant off-field red-flags which require further investigation. - Rob Rang 2/3/2018

COMPARES TO
Vontaze Burfict, Bengals - From their combative playing style to their off-field concerns to the fact that both - when under control - are starting caliber NFL linebackers, the chain linking the admittedly stouter 6-1, 250 pound Burfict and Victor is just too obvious to ignore.

IN OUR VIEW
Victor's career at Washington certainly ended on a sour note but if he can convince teams during interviews at the Combine that he has matured since, he possesses the talent to warrant draft consideration. He is an instinctive, physical linebacker who not only will make a team, he'll contend for early playing time with the raw talent to project as a future starter.
 Suspended twice last season, failed drug test, and had DUI his junior season. Gruden don't fukk with the choir boys that Reggie drafts, Gruden has returned the feelings already. :banderas:
