Terrelle Pryor rehires Rosenhaus

pryor.jpg

Last week, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor fired agent Jerome Stanley, who had accused coach Dennis Allen of setting Pryor up to fail by making him the Week 17 starter.

Per a league source, Pryor has hired Drew and Jason Rosenhaus to handle Pryor’s interests going forward.

Drew and Jason Rosenhaus represented Pryor earlier in his career, when he emerged from Ohio State and entered the NFL via the supplemental draft. A third-round pick after the lockout ended in 2011, Pryor has completed three years of his four-year rookie deal.

Absent an extension with the Raiders, Pryor will be a free agent in 2015. The Raiders could decide to move on from Pryor, or to keep him around at a relatively cheap base salary of $705,000.

Pryor showed promise early in the 2013 season. A knee injury gave undrafted rookie Matt McGloin a chance to play. McGloin thereafter took the starting job, with Pryor making a pair of cameo appearances before starting the regular-season finale against the Broncos.

he Raiders' rough season continues. Wednesday, they were sued by their cheerleading squad.

The suit, filed in Alameda County Superior Court on behalf of current and former Raiderettes, claims that the NFL team engaged in wage theft and other unfair employment practices. Specifically, the suit charges that the team withholds all pay from the Raiderettes until after the season is completed, does not pay for all hours worked and forces the cheerleaders to pay many of their own business expenses.

"It's as if the Raiders' owners believe that the laws that protect all workers in California just don't apply to them," attorney Sharon Vinick said.

According to Vinick, the Raiders cheerleaders are contracted for an annual salary of $1,250, which amounts to an hourly wage of less than $5 per hour. The lawsuit also claims that the Raiderettes incur other costs, including fines levied for infractions such as bringing the wrong pom-poms to practice, wearing the wrong workout clothing to rehearsals, failing to bring a yoga mat to practice, or not turning in written biographies on time.

"The club controls our hairstyle and makeup, and we have to foot the bill," said the lead plaintiff, Lacy T., identified only by her first name, in accordance with Raiderettes policy, for security reasons. "We also have to pay the costs for traveling to all kinds of events, including photo shoots... I love the Raiders and I love being a Raiderette, but someone has to stand up for all of the women of the NFL who work so hard for the fans and the teams."

Vinick, the attorney, said the Raiders owe tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid wages to women who worked as Raiderettes in previous seasons, and owes thousands of dollars in penalties to the women who worked this season.

"I have never seen an employment contract with so many illegal provisions," Vinick said.

The Raiders, through a team spokesperson, declined comment.

The next big thing: Raiders

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Now that the Oakland Raiders have answered any questions about who will be their head coach next season -- Dennis Allen is returning for his third season after consecutive 4-12 campaigns -- and we know that all but three of Allen’s top-tier assistants will return, the team’s focus turns to its own roster.

It is a three-step process for the Raiders, really, as they must decide which of their pending 18 unrestricted free agents they want to keep. General manager Reggie McKenzie has already publicly identified four in left tackleJared Veldheer, running back Rashad Jennings, defensive end Lamarr Houston and free safety Charles Woodson.

Depending upon who they retain, the Raiders will then make runs at free agents to not fill holes, but be frontline starters. McKenzie intimated he could go after a quarterback (Josh Freeman? Josh McCown? Mark Sanchez, if and when he’s cut?) while adding that a prototypical edge rusher (Greg Hardy? Justin Tuck? Jared Allen?) is also atop Oakland’s needs. Still, McKenzie says he will not spend the Raiders’ $60 million in cap space foolishly.

Then comes the draft as the Raiders hold the No. 5 overall pick. McKenzie may have spoken too soon in evaluating Texas A&M junior quarterback Johnny Manziel, but he did call him a playmaker and the Raiders do need playmakers. Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins also fits that description, no?
