I agree. What that has to do with this topic, I have no idea. Nobody is attempting to fight hate with hate. I posted articles that deal with hate.

I agree. Now please tell me who did that. Maybe someone did, but it wasn't me. You would know that if you read my posts on Islam over the years. I think I drive a lot of people crazy because I point out what I perceive to be the deleterious effects of Islam and other religions, while taking in other factors and never stereotyping with a broad brush.

Again, we're just talking about posting articles.

Islam can act as an intensifier and justification. That's all I've ever argued. Miss me with anything more than that.


Ask a question relevant to the matter. I never said "x happens solely because of Islam."

The only reason that flurry of articles happened last night was because they were in response to blackking's lame confrontational fake positive thread. It would've died down within one or two days. You guys have read the board long enough to know these things go in cycles.

You're being restrictive to free expression if you just merge every thread posted that may serve to cast Islam or any other religion in a bad light. These stories deal with issues larger than Islam, and people should be free to post them without merging them together...lest you do it for everything. Maybe you can make an "official negative stories about Republicans thread," or an "official negative stories about gay people thread," or an "official negative story about conspiracy theorists" thread.

I've tried to see both sides of this, but when both sides act as if their opinion is the only valid one it's just odd to me (not that you've done that). I would ask though, why ONLY post negative shyt about islam? Was it in response to the positive posts, sounds like so. You might do well to know that certain parties wanted all "negative" islam post deleted from that thread, they were not for a reason (your mods at work).

It sounds like we're closer in opinion than I would have assumed. That being said, IMHO dropping post after post of things that paint islam in a negative light while never touching the topic of things that paint it positively is intellectually dishonest.

You never answer my question though, which believe it or not is at the heart of this entire issue (and pretty much ALL issues we discuss on HL).

Don't know why you posted the same thing twice, but I'll tell you again like I did in the last post to direct this question to someone who says all this violence cited here is solely a direct result of the perpetuators' adherence to Islam because that person isn't me.

To break it down to a pure base level, selfishness and particular selfishness when it comes to competition for resources is usually the most core factor contributing to atrocities imo.

Thanks for being self-analytical and reasonable though. And I agree some of the comments about Islam are way over the top, and often myopic and reductive, failing to try and take in the full scope of things. But if we get to the point of censoring people just for criticizing Islam or any other religion (not saying that's what you're doing), then that's just not becoming a debate forum.

that's what I think. All atrocities, at their root, are based in a desire to have power. Regardless of the vehicle be it Islam, Christianity, Science, democracy, communism; power is the driver. All these ideals/beliefs are more noble than heinous, it's that POWER that uses these things to get more power. FIghting for resources is just trying to gain power as well. The root is the desire for power. I'd even go so far as to argue, based on what i've gather from history, it's part of the human condition. Which is pretty damn sad, but it is what it is.

This is why when people start shyting on [insert what they don't believe in] I find it pointless; addressing a symptom and not the disease.

i couldn't agree more, and like i said that's why the majority of the "anti islam" post in the other thread remain...we did have to delete blatant/obvious trolling though, we're trying to run a respectable thing here

I don't think religion is a symptom though, I think in many cases it's a vector. But whatever.
