Big televised boxing events normally have higher viewer numbers, but their age demographic normally skews toward older males. Whereas the UFC typically has slightly fewer viewers, but more people in the target 18-49 demographic are watching.

Both are niche sports. MMA is bigger in the US right now, but boxing is bigger globally.

As of late, MMA (specifically the UFC) has been pulling in better TV and PPV numbers. 2 of the 3 biggest combat sports stars are MMA fighters.

Tom Brady, Ben Affleck and other celebrities buy ownership stake in the UFC
The UFC has new owners. A lot of them.

It was announced during Thursday night's episode of "Conan" by host Conan O'Brien that a group of celebrity investors represented by WME-IMG have purchased a small stake in the UFC following the $4 billion sale of the company in July.

WME-IMG, which purchased the UFC, offered an investment as a small stake in the company to several of its lucrative clients who make up the roster at the talent and sports agency.

"After the UFC deal was announced, WME — William Morris Endeavor — gave some of their clients an opportunity to purchase a small ownership stake in the UFC. I'm excited to announce that I was one of those clients," O'Brien announced on his show.

"I said yes and so now I technically own a piece of the UFC. I am now part of a group of investors that includes Ben Affleck, Tom Brady, Mark Wahlberg, Adam Levine, Cam Newton, LL Cool J, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Sylvester Stallone, just to name a very few."

The list of celebrity investors also includes fellow talk show host Jimmy Kimmel as well as actor and director Tyler Perry.

I read Dana tried to talk Conor out of fighting so soon because his leg is still hurt. I guess we have our built in excuse if he loses or it'll be Conor won with one good leg.

Globally, MMA has been growing at a rapid rate. And there are other promotions starting to come about. The UFC is like the WWE where it's a brand and they have a format ... I don't know if that has been patented here in the states. A lot of that credit goes to Dana White and those behind the scenes.

I don't know if this will ever happen again but I remember when Shane Mosley fought Antonio margarito. That same night Fedor Emelianenko fought as well, if I'm not mistaken. It's the time where Larry Merchant was quoted as saying "ou have to pay me a million dollars to go to one of those things."

Either way, both events were sold out. they can and will both co-exist because there will always be a portion that does not like the grappling aspect. Just like in the USA there is a large portion that just does not like soccer. Even though it's the biggest Global sport next to fighting.

Holloways simple ass should have been calling Aldo out as soon as he got the interim.

Pointless now, if Aldo's set on retiring then Max will get his shot by default

He called out Aldo and Frankie before the interim title fight. Once it was assumed Aldo would get Conor; his focus shifted to Frankie. When Frankie had weight drop rumors, Max was focusing on Pettis. I think it makes sense (I could see the other side though, dude is better served just trash talking at everybody until one of them bites), he's been calling out the best available opponents for a while now.

Yeah but he's been polite about it. This is the problem. Why do you got newbies like Garbrandt showing to cards in suits doing press for no reason. While Max just sits in the shadows playing Twitch and posting thoughts on twitter??

Guy is a exciting fighter on a 8 fight winning streak with no buzz whatsoever :wtf:
He needs to fire his management

Yeah I agree there, this dude needs to spend a week with Chael Sonnen learning how to game this ish. You even got cats like Tony Ferguson and Ben Rothwell who are goofy as hell at it, but getting fights because they're drawing attention (not that their talent is there, but talent is only part of the equation).
