ANN ARBOR -- Jim Harbaugh wasted literally no time getting to work Tuesday.
Hours after he was formally introduced as Michigan's 20th head football coach, Harbaugh immediately began calling recruits and began his efforts to build the future of his program.
Harbaugh phoned all six of Michigan's current commits, and spoke with them about their pledge to the school and his pledge to them.
He also called a handful of other top-flight players across the country, including five-star tight end Chris Clark -- a former Michigan commit himself -- and the No. 1-ranked player nationally at his position.
It's safe to say, Clark was impressed.
"I think Michigan's going to turn back into a powerhouse with him," Clark told MLive on Wednesday. "He's like the LeBron James of coaching it feels like.
"It was a really casual, chill conversation. But it was just really cool. We talked for like an hour."
Clark, who backed out of his Michigan pledge the day Brady Hoke was fired, says he now plans to make an official visit to Michigan in January, possibly Jan. 16 or 17, depending on his schedule.
He said Harbaugh spoke with him for roughly an hour, and also took the time to talk with his parents to get to know them as well. They spoke about his position, and how Harbaugh values the tight end spot.
"We kind of just talked about how he hopes Michigan turns into 'Tight End U,' and all the top tight ends he produced while he was at Stanford," said Clark, who will play in the Under Armour All-American Game on Friday. "I think six of them went on to the NFL. He said he thinks I could be a great leader for the class, and he's just hoping I'll be a part of it.
"He was a really cool guy, I liked him a lot."
Harbaugh also told Clark he spent most of the afternoon and evening calling Michigan's commits, and "a couple calls to uncommitted, like the big-time uncommitted kids." Clark says he knows Harbaugh spoke to five-star 2015 corner Iman Marshall as well.
In addition, Clark said he got the impression that Harbaugh's coaching staff will likely be comprised of "a bunch of his own guys, he'll know in the next couple days, I think it'll be coaches he worked with at Stanford and some guys with the 49ers."
As of now, Michigan's six-man class consists of four-star quarterback Alex Malzone, four-star wide receiver Brian Cole, four-star safety Tyree Kinnel, four-star offensive lineman Grant Newsome, three-star offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. and kicker Andrew David.
Clark says he doesn't really have a favorite at the moment, but indicated he's down to Michigan and UCLA.
"I know where I stand with Michigan, I love the school," he said. "I know they really want me. It's a pretty good fit, but we'll just see on the visit. I still like UCLA a lot. It's pretty close right now.
"There's no favorite, they're both neck and neck. So we'll see."
If it comes down to name power, though, Harbaugh might have a pretty big trump card to play with plenty of prospects over the next few weeks.
"It was just crazy, I saw him coach in the Super Bowl a few years ago and I see him on TV every weekend," Clark said. "It was really cool talking with him."
