I meant their chances of getting one of them.
Despite this happening quick, there's still a lot known on our end regarding the Nate Johnson commitment.....

1. Michigan staffers had been in contact with Johnson for a while, with a couple members of the staff pushing for them to offer him as long as a month ago when his senior film was released. Despite being in relatively good shape with Pie Young and Dylan Crawford especially, the coaching staff pulled the trigger, so there's no doubt they see some major potential in Johnson's abilities. I think it's unexpected that he would commit so soon, but he told Barton Simmons that he wanted to play on the biggest stage possible, and it doesn't really get any bigger I suppose.

2. It's believed that Tennessee waited too long to offer here, as Johnson camped there last summer and didn't get an offer, only to get one after other schools started to take notice after his senior film was released. I don't believe they'd be a factor to flip in this situation, even if they push heading down the stretch.

3. Michigan is still in good shape on Pie Young, but he has yet to pull the trigger still. I don't think there's any concern about Young at this point, but it could be indicative of their belief on what Dylan Crawford is going to do. While the Viramontes commitment opened up another potential spot, I think they may look at linebacker to fill that void (guessing). This is something I'll dig on.

Meh. Fluid as always. I am trying to find out if the commitment is indicative of their feelings about any other targets. That will probably yield the answer.

Guess we will find out soon enough

I wanted to stop in and give my perspective on new Michigan commit Nate Johnson. At 247Sports, we have him rated significantly higher than the industry's composite ranking but I'm not the least bit worried about being against the grain here. Johnson is an absolute stud.

Johnson was one of the best pass-catchers in the state of Tennessee as a junior which was his breakout season. He had over 1,200 yards receiving in a successful, wide-open offense. Maybe because of the system he was in, or maybe because he wasn't some 6-3 big-bodied guy, he never caught traction on the recruiting trail. He landed an offer from just about every FCS program that recruits Tennessee but for whatever reason, the bigger schools were scared to pull the trigger.

Late in the spring, almost early summer, I saw him at The Opening regional in Columbus. At that point, he still just had a host of FCS offers. At the event, the wide receiver coaches, including Bucky Brooks of the NFL Network, were asking me who Johnson was. He wasn't on their radar before the event, he wasn't a name they came in expecting to like, but he ran away with the MVP award and was clearly one of the best at the event. He also answered any questions about athleticism with a solid 40 yard dash (4.60) and freaky testing numbers elsewhere (4.03 shuttle, 39-inch vertical).

After that Nike camp we started inching him up in our rankings. He landed an offer that summer from Purdue and committed immediately, jumping on his best opportunity. I saw him later that summer at Vanderbilt's elite camp and he was unreal. The current Vanderbilt players were out at the event and the entire team was going nuts every time Johnson would take a 1on1 rep. He was making DBs fall down, do 360s, just putting on a show.

Then the season came and Johnson validated his camp performances and was just unstoppable. It was a crime that he didn't win Mr. Football. He played with a quarterback that he had been with for years and their offense was crazy good (undefeated with very few close contests) but Johnson made it tick. He's one of the best route-runners in the country, has great hands, fantastic body control and he has a much bigger catch radius than his 5-11 size would suggest. He's also added good weight and strength as he's progressed in high school. At this point, he reminds me some of Christian Kirk down at Texas A&M in terms of body type.

Johnson has a well-earned chip on his shoulder. Despite dominating camps and putting up huge numbers on the field, the big offers and, for the most part, the big rankings haven't come his way. For that reason, he's always seemed like a kid that was going to land at the biggest name school that offered him. When Vandy offered, he decommitted from Purdue. When Penn State offered, they took over in the driver's seat. When Tennessee offered, he seemed destined for Knoxville. When Michigan offered, it was as if he hit the top of the food chain.

Everyone came in late. There was no loyalties anywhere. The feeling was that Johnson would want to prove himself on the biggest stage possible. At Michigan he can do that.

Have fun with this guy. He's a good one.

I'm real close to putting in a 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast in favor of Michigan for Top100 offensive tackle Jean Delance following his official visit to Michigan.

Delance is at the top of the board for the Wolverines staff, as we've been reporting for the entire cycle.

While in Ann Arbor, Delance got an opportunity to see how close everyone is within the Michigan program and enjoyed his time.

However, I could also be close to putting in a forecast for LSU here. I believe those are the top two. Outside of that, I'm not sure who leads right now.

Delance is set to announce at the Under Armour All-American Game, which means Michigan got the last visit before the dead period. He was at LSU last weekend.

**********

Detroit (Mich.) King Top100 cornerback Lavert Hill took his official visit to Michigan this weekend.

This recruitment has tightened up a big down the stretch, but following my report earlier in the week that Michigan State was a threat, and they are, a coach at King told 247Sports that Hill wants to be a Wolverine.

I haven't flipped my 247Sports Crystal Ball on Hill from Michigan and don't plan to.

**********

It's going to be Michigan or Notre Dame for Top247 linebacker Jonathan Jones who took his official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend with his mother.

Jones had the Wolverines as his leader during the summer but ND narrowed things during a fall official. Jones thought about committing while in South Bend but that has worn off and Michigan has been consistent near the top.

One source close to the situation believes Michigan is the program to beat for Jones, so at this point I'd be surprised if he ended up at Notre Dame.

**********

Love the verbal Michigan secured from Top247 receiver Nate Johnson.

Johnson caught 87 passes for 1,713 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior and helped lead his Independence team to an undefeated season and Tennessee Class 5A state title.

I believe Johnson is an instant impact type guy for the Wolverines and may have surpassed Chris Evans as the most dynamic player in this class that ranks No. 6 nationally according to 247Sports. Both will be productive players in Ann Arbor

Notes
Bush Jr.: In about 48 hours, top linebacker target Devin Bush Jr. will make his college decision, and it will be between Florida State and Michigan.

I'm still sitting at about 65/35 in favor of the Wolverines here. I realize there are many reasons why he would or could commit to Florida State, but I don't feel like I am exaggerating when I say Michigan has recruited him harder than anyone on their board outside of maybe Rashan Gary. At points in this recruitment, Michigan continued to push very, very hard while Florida State took a more lax approach, assuming he was eventually going to commit to them because of his Florida roots and legacy status with his father being a former Seminole star.

The coaching staff has made not only Bush Jr., but the Flanagan program in general a major priority on the recruiting trail, and I believe this remains a situation where their persistence will pay off. Small note, but don't forget that it was actually Bush Jr. who coined the #Fab25 phrase while on one of his unofficial visits to campus.

The other and more major note I continue to go back to regarding Michigan's confidence in Bush Jr. revolved around him not being able to make his official visit last weekend. When it first became clear that Flanagan's playoff run would interfere with the visit date, there was no concern on Michigan's end as far as him missing what would normally be a vital visit late in an important recruitment.

However this decision turns out, you can be sure there will be extensive notes on the happenings.

Walker: I talked to one source on the Florida State side of things on Monday, and the belief is that Michigan's lead for Kareem Walker may have been too much to make up for them to catch the Wolverines in the end.

Again, crootin, but this is another race where it really would take a lot to overcome the momentum Michigan had. The Wolverines and maybe Arizona State are the only two programs that recruited him hard while he remained committed to Ohio State, and Michigan really picked things up once it became clear he was wavering on his pledge to Ohio State.

Unless something changes here, I'm not taking my Crystal Ball off of the Wolverines in this race also. Again, extensive notes will follow however this turns out.

Onwuzurike: Michigan would really like to add Allen (TX) three-star defensive end Levi Onwuzurike to their 2016 fold. He's a player they've recruited forever, and one that they've continued to pursue with vigor, as Greg Mattison was in-home last week after also watching him in a playoff game the weekend before.

He's set to announce a top four in the near future, and while Baylor, Washington and Michigan are safe bets to make that group, there isn't a great feel for who the fourth school would be. It may be local TCU. Either way, that fourth school is currently on the outside looking in (in our opinion) regardless of who it is. One source closer to the Michigan side of things was blunt when asked if there was any feel for what he was going to do: "None".

With four-star DE Connor Murphy 99% locked in to visit in January, the dead period will be an opportunity for the Wolverines to continue to work on Onwuzurike to get a better idea of where things stand with him.

He is a three-star prospect, but I'll get out in front of it now and say that if he does pledge to Michigan, it will be a huge win for the staff. They are very, very high on his abilities.

Bits
- Michigan's road to Isaac Nauta got harder with Jacob Eason reaffirming his pledge to Georgia on Tuesday morning. We've had Nauta pegged to the Bulldogs for a while, but an Eason pledge to Florida would have helped the Wolverines' chances.

- Probably not a major surprise, but with an offer now on the board, we expect 2017 LB Jaquan Henderson to flip to the Wolverines from UCLA sooner rather than later. This pledge won't affect Michigan's pursuit of anybody on their LB board in the class, as we still see Josh Ross and Drew Singleton as the top overall targets early on.

- Posted this on the board yesterday, but worth re-iterating: It won't be a surprise to see Ohio State attempt to make a late run at Rashan Gary. Antwuan Jackson is expected to choose Auburn and the Buckeyes continue to chase LSU lean Rashard Lawrence at defensive tackle. If they miss on both, they will regroup and go hard after Gary and may go hard at him either way. While the Greg Schiano hire will help the Buckeyes recruiting efforts in the Garden State, we don't expect it to be immediately with kids slated to make decisions in less than two months. The battles in 2017 and 2018 will be a lot more interesting.

- Michigan tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh dropped in on 2017 five-star offensive tackle Austin Jackson last week while in town to see Connor Murphy. Expect the Wolverines to pick up their pursuit of him going forward, as I've moved him to the Top Target category on the 2017 board (for now). He's right there with Isaiah Wilson and Robert Hainsey as far as the tackle position is concerned.

- While Michigan is definitely one of the top schools on the list of 2017 Top100 wide receiver Tarik Black, I fully believe Alabama is in the driver's seat for now. Depending on how the Tide view him as a prospect, it may be where he eventually ends up.

- Two 2017 Georgia prospects with offers are expected to release a top group soon, and I'd be surprised if the Wolverines made the cut for either one of them. Expect four-star cornerback William Poole III and four-star linebacker Jaden Hunter to end up elsewhere.
Levi Onwuzurike highlights

After watching this I can see why the staff is after him so hard:ohhh:kid is relentless great looking motor:thumbsup:

Getting Devin Bush was highly important on various fronts. I consider Walker and Gary silent commits so we are good to go
