It’s been Tea Leaf Reading season for awhile now regarding the University of Michigan’s search for a new head coach, but the DetroitSportsRag might have something definitive to report regarding Jim Harbaugh’s interest in the vacancy.

As alluded to earlier today on MGoBlog.com, inrecentdaysJim Harbaugh sent a text message to Andy Moeller (an offensive line coach on the Browns and the son of Gary Moeller) stating that it looked like they’d be “getting the band back together.”

Our source is inside the U of M athletic department and well connected. Also, we confirmed the text message story through a former Michigan football player.

The “band” being former Michigan players led by Harbaugh heading back to Ann Arbor in an attempt to resurrect the Michigan football program. There has been speculation that Moeller would be a part of Harbaugh’s staff if he left the NFL for U of M.

It’s probably not a coincidence that LSU head coach Les Miles basically backed out of the fray this evening (when he wasn’t really a part of it in the first place from all indications.)

Everything is pointing towards Harbaugh getting the gig and Tuesday might be a big day in that effort moving forward.

Brandstatter is rumored to be the main leak in the Harbaugh news, but he's definitely not the only one. Jeff Moss is legit as they come, and Gregg Henson has direct Harbaugh ties (with father Jack I believe) .. so who knows ..

Either way, I'm off today, the baby's in day care ... so I'm gonna get this early start ..

Hunter Lochmann, Michigan's chief marketing officer in athletics, was asked Friday during the IMG Intercollegiate Athletics Forum about paying college athletes.

Lochmann, according to the Sports Business Journal, spoke about the tradition of Michigan's Block M.

"The athletes are there for four years," Lochmann said, according to the report. "At Michigan, it's the Block M that has the infinity and power, not Denard Robinson. Those are fleeting, four-year relationships, but it's the block M that's been there for over 150 years."

@chengelis: Michigan CMO Hunter Lochmann has "resigned to pursue other options" per UM spokesman.

Report: Michigan offering Harbaugh 6 Yrs/$49M
112 minutes ago

6_3123056.jpg

Per a report from CBS reporter Joe Pequeno out of KPHO in Phoenix, Arizona, Michigan's offer to Jim Harbaugh is for six years and 49 million dollars.

If these numbers are correct, it would make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in college football. Nick Saban at Alabama is currently the highest paid coach in the NCAA at 7.3 million/year. Those numbers at 8+ million/year would also make him the highest paid coach in either college or the NFL, as Sean Payton in New Orleans and Pete Carroll in Seattle make an even 8 million/year.

Harbaugh has long been Michigan's top target for the head coaching position that opened up after the Wolverines fired Brady Hoke last month. A former quarterback at Michigan, Harbaugh is considered one of the top overall minds in the game, leading the San Francisco 49ers to three straight NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl appearance.
