@papa pimp He may not be the exact reincarnation of good ole Don, but he def does not run the same defense as Minter/MacDonald like's being trotted around by mfs who tryna feel better about the possible incoming choice lol. Just cuz it's a pro style defense does not mean that it's the exact same defense. Wink runs Nickel a lot more than what Minter/MacDonald likes to and he likes to blitz a helluva lot more too. I will say it does seem like he's willing to switch things up depending on what personnel he has (E.g., Ain't no Kyle Hamilton in NY)
I didn't say he runs the same exact defense but to say its Don Brown 2.0 is an exaggeration.
Minter gave the cosign for Martindale. There are some schematic differences but at its base there is tons of overlap.
The only time dude hasn't fielded a great defense is when he doesn't have the personnel. If no one at Michigan transfers (big if) then that won't be an issue.
Why would anyone need to feel better about that? He did better at his job than Bill O Brien did in the pros.
If he's the choice, then I hope you're right. Only thing that would annoy me is the lazy recruiting angle. I was hoping we'd move away from that, and get even more aggressive.
Positions coaches will be KEY.
I think I like Cullen or Martindale to the alternative of Elston/Clink Co-DCs or even worse some semi unproven dude from the college ranks.
