to pt it nicely he wasn't good when out there
well that shows Sherrone definitely wants to be more balanced.
seems like he can maximize Bryce talent he's a Gus disciple 8 out 11 season as an OC his teams averaged over 30 I'm excitednothing ground breaking but high floor guy whose offense is usually in the 30-40 range
What are the takeaways?
All in all, his tenure will be defined by the talent he has, specifically the talent surrounding Underwood. If we get good WRs, improved OL play, and a good bridge QB for year 1, we can compete nationally with Lindsey at OC. If we don't fill our obvious holes at WR/OL over the next few years (ideally next year), he'll still be better than Campbell, but that won't mean much.
- He won't be around long. Never stayed at a spot as OC for more than 2 years. We get him for Bryce's tenure at most, and that's it.
- I'm ignoring his Troy data. He was clearly a bad HC, but that's a very different job than OC and not what we're judging him on.
- He's not a star, but he's solid. Never had an offense in the top 20 (with the caveat that I don't have 2018 Auburn info), but has had 2 in the top 30. He also has only between outside the top 55 once, his first season ever as an OC at Southern Miss.
- Overall his teams seem to generally match the production level that has historically or recently been experienced at that school. Every so often you'll see large improvements (Auburn year 1, Southern Miss year 2). It's hard to extrapolate more than that since he never stays more than 2 years. But another sign of a good not great OC.
- The two most relevant spots from a talent perspective to Michigan were UNC with Maye and Auburn. His only Auburn year with data, he was 26th. His 1 year with Maye, he was 21st. Those are his two best years. Bodes well for how he can do at Michigan which should have superior talent to those spots.
- I'd argue his most recent year at UNC was good. 35th without Maye, and while losing their projected starting QB in game 1 for the year, is impressive. They had a great RB sure, but started Jacolby Criswell at QB. Michigan had great RB talent and bad QB play, look where we finished.
he doubling down on it
