It may come as no surprise that the Agents of SHIELD creators have a tie-in planned with
Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Obviously, SHIELD is no stranger to Marvel movie tie-ins. After the big twist in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, SHIELD picked up the thread with Hydra infiltrating its organization. The series also featured a crossover with Thor: The Dark World and the aftermath of that movie. More recently the show introduced a Kree alien, which
could be seen as a Guardians tie-in (sorta).
Now, SHIELD executive producers
Jed Whedon and
Maurissa Tancharoen have revealed that the ABC series will tie into Avengers 2 as well. Speaking with
EW.com, Whedon said, "The Avengers is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we're included in that."
Tancharoen added that, while it won't be as impactful as the Winter Soldier tie-in -- "I don't think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that Captain America 2 did," she said -- fans should expect some interesting connections.
Right now it's uncertain how the ABC series will tie into the new movie, but there are numerous possibilities. IGN's own Eric Goldman noted that SHIELD has already named-dropped Baron von Strucker,
who is in Age of Ultron; so there's a chance we could actually see him or his forces on the show leading up to Avengers 2.
