SDCC 2014: AGENT CARTER RECRUITS CAPTAIN AMERICA MOVIE DIRECTORS

Captain America directors and Jarvis

25 JUL 2014 BY AMY RATCLIFFE

Agent Carter is coming to ABC next year for an 8 episode arc, and Marvel Television brought some teases about the series starring Peggy Carter to Comic-Con. Executive producers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, producer Louis D'Esposito, and Hayley Atwell pulled back the curtain for a few reveals.

Markus and McFeely wrote and directed the first episode of the series, and Markus stated the show is a great opportunity to go back and mine great territory they've never been able to explore with Peggy Carter. Atwell is excited to be back because there's so much that's unexplored. She said it's the chance to develop the character both as a human being and a super spy. Butters and Fazekas hinted that there could potentially be a female villain in the picture. Butters said, "There are other women in that world who are just as powerful - both good and bad."

They haven't started filming the series yet so they didn't have any footage to share, but they did show a teaser. The brief look featured shots of Peggy from Captain America: The First Avenger and the one-shot from the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray. There were also headlines from a newspaper showing that Howard Stark is in trouble; the government seems to think he's a traitor.

Beyond that, they confirmed directors from the Captain America films are also directing episodes for Agent Carter. Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will be behind the camera for the second and third episodes, and Joe Johnston will direct the fourth episode. During an interview with Markus and McFeely, we also learned Howard Stark's butler Edwin Jarvis will appear in Agent Carter.

SDCC 2014: NEW CHARACTERS ANNOUNCED FOR SEASON 2 OF MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD

Lance Hunter and Daniel Whitehall come into the picture

25 JUL 2014 BY AMY RATCLIFFE

Phil Coulson and company were left in a precarious position at the end of Season 1 of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. Former Agent Ward betrayed them all, and Hydra is everywhere. Coulson got promoted to Director of SHIELD and has been charged with rebuilding the team. Executive producers Jeff Bell, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jed Whedon were joined by cast members Clark Gregg (Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (May), Brett Dalton (Ward), Chloe Bennet (Skye), Elizabeth Henstridge (Simmons), and Iain De Caestecker (Fitz) on stage at Comic-Con to discuss Ward's betrayal and what's ahead.

Dalton said he was incredibly surprised to learn about his character's true feelings. When the executive producers came to see him to tell him about Ward's Hydra alliances, he thought he was going to be fired. He was okay with being turned into the villain instead. That development took the last half of Season 1 into a completely different direction, and the Hydra presence will continue to be the prevailing threat.

Though Marvel didn't say much about Season 2, they did mention the addition of a few new characters to the series. They confirmed Lucy Lawless will be joining next season as Isabelle Hartley. Tancharoen said the character is playing a long time SHIELD veteran who's tough and may have a knife that's always be her side. We'll be seeing her "pretty soon."

She's not the only fresh face. Lance Hunter, a member of the British force known as STRIKE, will come into the picture. He'll be played by newcomer Nick Blood. Yes, that's really his name. During a later interview, we learned Coulson has to recruit outside the box and that includes looking at other groups such as STRIKE.

Hydra is clearly the biggest threat the team faces in the first half of Season 2, and Daniel Whitehall is part of that. The Hydra agent will be portrayed by Reed Diamond.

No news on who or what Skye is, but Whedon said she's not going to like it.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Ward related scoop on season 2 from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams

Ward-feels-powerless.jpg

Here's some scoop on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams' Mega Buzz column, which was posted on 7/29/14.

Anything on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., specifically how Ward might factor into the first couple of episodes? —Mary, via Twitter
Don't worry, Ward will still play a big role in Season 2 — as will Hydra. "He spent his whole life being a follower and being told what to do," executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen tells me. "Now he's in our custody and alone, so what does that mean for him? Season 2 is Ward continuing to discover what he wants."

TWIN PEAKS' KYLE MACLACHLAN JOINS MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD: SEASON 2

"Diane, I hold in my hand a Night-Night Gun."

7 AUG 2014 BY MATT FOWLER

Actor Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Portlandia) is joining Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a major Season 2 role. If you want to know the actual identity of that role, keep on reading. If you're looking to avoid spoilers, stop here.

Kyle MacLachlan and Henry Simmons.

According to TVLine, MacLachlan will be playing Skye's father. Which would certainly mean that crucial parts of her mysterious backstory are going to come to light in Season 2.

It also means that the mystery man who Raina (Ruth Negga) spoke to in the Season 1 finale, saying "I found your daughter," is MacLachlan's character.

And in more S.H.I.E.L.D. casting news, TVLine is reporting that NYPD Blue's Henry Simmons has landed a recurring role in Season 2 as Agent Alphonso “Mac” Mackenzie - a mechanic in his early 30s.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9/8c on ABC.

ABC's Agents of SHIELD is bringing in another character from the comics.

Friday Night Lights favorite and comic book fan Adrianne Palicki has been tapped to guest-star as Marvel super spy Bobbi Morse, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Best known to comics fans as Mockingbird, Palicki will appear in the fifth episode of the Marvel procedural with the potential to return; the episode will find her popping in perhaps not as an ally to Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.
The arrival of Mockingbird was first teased in July at Comic-Con, when Patton Oswalt — who plays Billy Koenig and Sam Koenig — confirmed that Life Model Decoys exist in the SHIELD universe and suggested that Morse's character could appear in season two (watch the video, below).
Palicki joins a rapidly growing roster of guest stars heading to Agents of SHIELD's second run. She joins Kyle MacLachlan as Skye's (Chloe Bennet) father; Lucy Lawless as SHIELD veteran Isabelle Hartly; Reed Diamond as Hydra villain Daniel Whitehall (aka Kraken); Nick Blood as a mercenary Coulson reaches out to for help; Henry Simmons as agent Alphonso "Mac" Mackenzie; and Simon Kassianides as Bakshi.
For Palicki, the casting comes after she reteamed with FNL creator Jason Katims on NBC's About a Boy, playing a love interest for David Walton's Will. Her credits include G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Legion and Robot Chicken. She's repped by WME and Anonymous Content. Agents of SHIELD marks the actress' latest foray into the comic book world. She famously played Wonder Woman for DC in NBC's David E. Kelley pilot and as Nadia in The WB pilot Aquaman.
Agents of SHIELD returns Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
