Here's some scoop on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from this week's (Posted on 7/18/14) Matt's Inside Line column.

Can you give us a hint on how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ward will find himself working alongside the people he betrayed? –Rachel
“Alongside” is perhaps an optimistic way of viewing things! As exec producer Maurissa Tancharoen reminds, “He did very bad things” toward the close of Season 1. That said, “He’s in our custody now, and he’s a great villain to have around.” And he WILL be around. “Ward is definitely in the mix” as Season 2 opens, says EP Jed Whedon. “Brett [Dalton] has done a great job, and we love who Ward has become.”

LUCY LAWLESS APPEARING IN AGENTS OF SHIELD: SEASON 2

Xena: Warrior Princess actress is joining in unspecified role.

Agents of SHIELD is set to get a notable cast addition for the second season with Spartacus: War of the Damned and Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless.

TV Guide reports that Lawless — also known for her work on Battlestar Galactica and Parks and Recreation — is appearing in Agents of SHIELD: Season 2 in an unspecified role. Marvel isn't making public (at least not yet) how long the well-known actress will be on the ABC series.

However, we may learn a bit more about her role at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, with Agents of SHIELD having a panel at the enormous event. The second season will premiere September 23.

We can confirm that Agent Maria Hill will be back! "We have plans to bring her in and see her," Jed Whedon spilled to us, while Maurissa Tancharoen added, "We love Cobie, we love the character, she's so great." But the gushing didn't stop there as Jeffrey Bell chimed in, "She fits really nicely on the show and has good chemistry with Coulson and the others." Basically, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. EPs love her as much as we do.

I just finished watching Shield a few days ago and it really finished on a stronger note than earlier but they need to drop the "campy" vibe and adopt some the thriller feel of CA2 if it wants to continue to have my interest. They somewhat did that in the second half so we'll see how it goes.

When I first heard of Agent Carter, I was like 'wtf'...but after seeing the Marvel One Shot, I think this show definitely has some potential.

Don't call him an agent anymore. Because there's a small time jump going into Season 2, he'll already be in the process of rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. as the new director — but that might not be so easy since the alien serum is affecting his brain. "As director, he'll be faced with some tough decisions, harder decisions than he had to make as an agent," executive producer Maurissa Tancharoentells me. "We'll see the emotional consequences of that and we'll see the shifts in dynamics between the characters because of that." (Also: Did you see this?)

The world of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is about to get even more geektastic.

Former Xena star Lucy Lawless is heading to ABC's super series in Season 2, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

In true Marvel fashion, details on her role and how long she'll be sticking around are being kept under wraps. (Call off the Level 7 snipers now, please!)

Lawless is also known for her roles on Spartacus,Battlestar Galactica and Parks and Recreation.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on ABC.
