Remember when Combat Jack had multiple podcasts under a platform I think that’s the only way to get 100m money like The Ringer has many podcasts so I get Bill’s it’s not an open mic statement plus the last two years he’s been testing out themed podcasts on paid platforms like luminosity and others. Like right now on Spotify there’s one on Cam Newton it’s available everywhere but Spotify has all the episodes up now no wait. If Joe turned the Pull up into a podcast then did more things it could happen but also at some point new blood will be necessary if he can find a dope chick from out of no where with no baggage that could even be better than a pull up like podcast.
Yeah I've said for a while that if Joe was this great content creator he would've been building up his own brand of podcasts using his industry connects. So on offdays they could still be releasing content and it would remove him from being just podcast talent and into being a boss. That way he'd have a whole package to offer to these companies. Everytime they'd say such and such should have a podcast all I thought was why not give them one. Or even make the Pull Ups a spinoff that could be packaged in as well.

Joe really put these dudes on. Mal and Rory are all in this position to get a major bag off the strength of Joe and his decision making. Like if Joe never joined Everyday Struggle this pod isn't as lucrative as it is now.

I wonder how much they pay the dudes behind the scenes

Naw Joe said it was a no name company that offered them the biggest bag

I remember him saying it came down to spotify and the no name company and he thought he'd have to convince Rory and Mal to take the spotity deal cause the other company was offering a way bigger bag

IIRC the tidal offer was like a year before they took the spotify deal

I remember Joe saying Mal and Rory wanted to take the tidal deal but he knew they could get something better so they waited

Yeah, and they got in a fight about it. They've referenced it by saying that they came to record, ended up getting in a fight, and ended up skipping a week.

Around the time the Spotify deal was announced, they mentioned that they had a deal on the table that Joe turned down because he thought they could get a better one by holding out.

Really, I think they lucked into being hot right when Spotify was looking into getting into podcasts. Now that they've established themselves as a viable podcast platform, I don't think they'd have the same level of interest in bringing them on.

Idk they a hot topic every week still tho. Now I don’t think they pod is making the listeners stick around Spotify. After the pod I close the app lol

Same. I imagine there's probably a not insignificant number of people that do that, too.

And don't think that 1: that's not a data point that Spotify has access to, and 2: that it isn't being used in negotiations.

And ultimately, I think Spotify is still going to negotiate in good faith with them in the interest of re-signing. It's just that at this point, they've signed people with a little more weight than them that probably chewed up a decent amount of whatever budget the company has set aside for growing the podcast side of things.
