Arguably the dumbest take I've ever heard. And I was never some big Wayne fan but he was getting acknowledgement from major rappers well before then. Joe is conflating "New York" with "hip hop" as he typically does. Most southern rappers crowned Wayne before then. The west was fukking with him. Wayne was even working with east coast rappers and getting props.

Once he started out rapping Jay on his own beats, it was pretty much a wrap outside of the butthurt east coast brigade.
