I already have a Itunes folder that contains all of my music, and I always "manually manage my music and videos i.e. dragging music to my phone. The reason why I believed it had something to do with that icloud shyt was because they kept prompting me to download it, and I finally gave in & used the same email address as my appleid. I think this somehow confused my phone in regards to home sharing because afterward, the only music I could play on my phone is songs that I purchased, and that fukking U2 album (which is stored in the cloud). The songs that I didn't purchase were greyed out and had a red square next to em - the crazy thing is, I could still play the music from my iphone using itunes, but I couldn't play the music on the device itself. I deleted icloud and eventually it did 'ungray' some of my songs, but damage was already done to most of my music.
Then I tried a back up, and the phone had hella duplicates taking up gigs of memory. I've now just reached the point, after spending hours with trying to get my music back, of saying fukk it, and wiped everything clean
..

But the bold is your problem. Instead of manually doing it, let iTunes do it for you. Drag your music to iTunes without your phone plugged up. Manage your music IN ITUNES then plug in your phone and sync. That way, if your library gets fukked up on your phone, you just have to plug it back up and sync again and everything will be there. No more dragging, just hit sync.
That manual shyt used to drive me crazy because it seemed like the phone just did whatever it wanted. Manage your music in iTunes (including deleting duplicates which is easy in iTunes) then just sync your library to your phone.

@Populair oh yeah 1 more thing. Once I had my phone synced up nicely and all my album art proper, I used some software to extract my entire library and replaced all my original mp3s with those new ones because they had the artwork embedded in em.

These are numbers of shipped phones to retailers, not shipped to the end customer.
I'm almost done with adding all of the music I lost. I'm definitely going to take your advice & not add songs manually. I also created a playlist with all of my music, so I can always potentially sync from it if something like this happens again.
Hopefully it's finished syncing before I have to get up in a few hours. My eyes are Cyclops status. nikkas are about to think I got my ass beat last night or something because I'm not taking off my glasses & risk beaming folks with this redness

man I manually managed my music for years mostly cuz I used my phone on multiple computers (work/home) and needed itunes on both, but it's just too much of a pain in the ass. now I'm just syncing selected playlist, and I simply make playlist for EVERYTHING now. that way if my phone craps out or I ever have to restore it, I don't have to go thru the trouble of re-doing all my playlist which can take hours. also, when you update the album art in itunes, when you sync the phone, those changes will automatically go to my phone instead. overall, just much less of a hassle.
