the processor is great, I would go with the "k" models (k at the end) for overclocking. Pick your motherboard first and if u sticking with the cpu, pick a LGA 1150 socket board. The memory is laptop memory. They are very tiny. Are you building a regular pc or a small pc ? How big u going ?
Don't think I'm need the k because I don't even know what over clocking does just started getting into this shyt and been doing some research I posted the wrong ram. Need desktop ram

OK got a few things picked out:

For CPU I think I am going to go with
Intel Core i5-4430 Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.0 GHz 6 MB Cache LGA 1150 - BX80646I54430

And for RAM I think I am sticking with

Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204-Pin 1.35V/1.5V Notebook Memory Modules For Mac CT2C4G3S160BM

And for SSD

Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE120BW

What you think?

Looks like overkill for what you described you wanted to do with it. Do you plan on doing anything else with it other than media consumption?

i think the i5 is an overkill if all you are doing is using it as htpc. i3 2100 would suffice. also you need a different ram. keep the SSD, any current 1150 mobo would provide apt ports for for storage (you might want to pick up a 3 or 4 TB, go for the highest size with decent pricing).

Thanks for the input. I wanted to get the i5 because I would be running sickbeard and couch potato constantly in the background and having them move media to my external hard drive. I am hoping to eventually build a ten TB NAS later this month and am just using the 2 tb hard drive I have now. I may do a little gaming on it as well but I don't really want to buy a separate video card do you think I will need one? Any one in here built a NAS how much did It run you

I had an old laptop with 2gigs of ram and a decent processor. I stream video through the VGA cable and used an SPDIF digital cable for HiDef sound.

And a small Keyboard with a touchpad for remote control. Then I use XBMC with SMB video/music streaming and the Xperience 1080 stream it's pure piffery.

shyt is all good.
