I'm not a fan of the Grammys but if you look at the winners of the best rap album category, most of them are great albums with a good amount of classics too. And those I don't like personally are still huge commercial success so there's atleast a logic behind their wins.

1996 : Poverty's Paradise
1997 : The Score
1998 : No Way Out
1999 : Vol 2... Hard Knock Life
2000 : The Slim Shady LP
2001 : The Marshall Mathers LP
2002 : Stankonia
2003 : The Eminem Show
2004 : Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
2005 : The College Dropout
2006 : Late Registration
2007 : Release Therapy
2008 : Graduation
2009 : Tha Carter III
2010 : Relapse
2011 : Recovery
2012 : My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
2013 : Take Care
2014 : The Marshall Mather LP II
2015 : The Heist
2016 : To Pimp A Butterfly
2017 : Coloring Book
2018 : DAMN.
2019 : Invasion Of Privacy
2020 : Igor

The real negative thing I'll point out is that they rely way to much on Kanye or Eminem.
My goodness they gave eminem that award so many times smh

I really think that if Nas doesn’t win, it’ll be a stunner that goes against unwritten Grammy rules. He’s the vet, he has way more industry contacts than the other nominees, major Grammy voters want him to win, etc. The thing I wonder about...is whether there will be a backlash driven by people upset about the Kelis thing who want to make a point. I’ve been asking around about this, talking to voters. I haven’t heard anything to suggest this is bubbling.

I think the Kelis thing has been pretty much deaded honestly. Her whole thing had soo many holes in it

Mercury Times predicts Nas for Best Rap Album and Megan Thee Stallion for Best Rap Performance

Best rap album: On his 14th try, Nas finally wins his first Grammy for “King’s Disease.”

Best rap performance: Or maybe this one is one is even safer — “Savage” by Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyoncé.

Nas been getting nominated for 22 years now? Lol, man they gonna give my son his flowers, guaranteed...if they don't they on some nefarious shyt, probably Roc Nation inspired,.

And how tf wasn't he nominated for IWW? That was one of the most played, most successful rap albums of 96.

The nominees for Best Rap Album in 97 (when It Was Written was eligible) were

Not getting hyped up about KD possibly winning cause I dont think it will

D Smoke, Jay Elec or Gibbs will probably win for different reasons (Netflix/unknown act to promote, Roc Nation link, Legit the best rap album and therefore in a year with so litttle commercial albums they went with that)

Medium predicts that Jay Electronica will take home Best Rap Album

Best Rap Album
  • Black Habits — D SMOKE
  • Alfredo — Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist
  • A Written Testimony — Jay Electronica
  • King’s Disease — Nas
  • The Allegory — Royce 5’9"
Prediction: A Written Testimony — Jay Electronica
This would be a pleasant surprise. However, I also can’t see any of the other albums winning. A Written Testimonyreceived extraordinary praise this past year. It was also one of the longest awaited hip-hop releases since Detox. The heavy Jay-Z assistance on the album also didn’t hurt.
