No, this is the America in Hannibal's world where there's a new psychopathic, creative serial killer every other week. Again, theres nothing in the show to suggest that this trial is in the headlines or that the mainstream news media has even picked it up as a story to cover.
Everyone that knows Will knows that his mental state has been somewhat unstable for some time plus hes semi-autistic plus Jack has been very concerned about him losing it from the very beginning of the series plus he was connected to all of the cases plus he was suffering from blackouts and loss of time plus he was at the scene of the crime when Abigail died plus all evidence points only to him, not least of which was Abigail's fukking ear sitting half-digested in his stomach. You look at all that and complain that people dont believe him when he's pointing to the guy that has all his shyt together and volunteers for all testing? On top of all that, there ARE STILL people that DO believe Will, which is actually more absurd than if nobody did, given the circumstances.
This upcoming episode is the first thats actually a really huge flag assuming Beverly is dead. And even then, the preview suggested that there is another guy doing the copycat murders to try and save Will, so Hannibal can just as easily make Beverly's murder look like the work of that guy as well. He already took out the judge and bailiff. Either way we know the shyt is hitting the fan soon. Its not like this goes on for years...which FBI cases often do.
