How does Alpine see the performance of hard tires and still decide to put both Ocon and Alonso on hards? :mindblown:

why do Aston Martin and McLaren use Mercedes power units?
The only other choices now are Renault and Ferrari. I don't think Ferrari would supply them. Renault can barely supply themselves correctly - at least, they can barely operate like a proper works team.

But why don't they do they own? Red Bull does
A good PU program would cost hundreds of millions to develop.

Red Bull/Honda, Mercedes, and Ferrari have more resources than everyone else on the grid. Even though there's a cost cap now, they still have the engineers and tools the others can't touch.

It's an expensive venture. Recall that these engines have been around and under development since 2014. Almost a decade of knowledge to catch up on. Red Bull only has their own because Honda was probably tired of getting spanked and was about to pull out. Ferrari and Mercedes didn't want to supply their ass, and they spent like 6 or 7 years talking mad shyt on Renault and burned those bridges. So they took over the Honda engine IP. Some think it's in preparation for Porsche to take over.
